About 24 hours now since I started vaping. Haven't smoked a real ciggie since and have no urge to do so. No feeling that I have to draw on every ounce of willpower to resist smoking. I'm on my second pre-filled cart but the Twist battery is still going strong. So far so good. Vaping seems to be working for me.
From a glass half full aspect, I'm hoping that I won't get addicted to vaping. My aim (hope) is that I can eventually wean myself off the nicotine addiction and eventually the hand-to-mouth, sucking and puffing habit. Does that make sense?

Karma: Your friend is very, very foolish. My relative has advanced, possibly chronic, COPD and believe me it isn't pleasant. I believe he will make a real effort to quit smoking this time.
Chrissie: I'm not laughing. I am very grateful for your encouragement and advice. I was so blown away by the Twist that I couldn't wait to do the rounds of my fellow smokers to let them try it out. Each of them had the same reaction - that it's as good as smoking. If the one with COPD decides to take the plunge, his Twist will be an early Christmas present from me. The future's looking good.

He does use some kind of inhaler, mainly at night. It think it's a nebuliser. Although he won't be able to reverse the damage already done to his lungs, vaping has to be preferable to smoking and might help prevent further damage.
I know it has only been a few hours since I started using the Twist, but I can't believe how well it suits me. Normally, I would have smoked quite a few cigs by now but I haven't had one or even felt the need for one. Without thinking, I automatically lit a cig about a half hour ago, took one puff and stubbed it out. I took with a grain of salt all the comments that vaping tasted better than cigs but it is true. I'm a convert.

Speaking as a RGN that worked in ITU/CCU,it should help. One of the big problems is that in ciggie smoke there are over 4000 toxic gases, these irritate the lung lining and produce mucus. In e juices, you just have Nicotine, the base carrier(PG/VG) and flavourings. So hes already getting the Nicotine, some people can be sensitive to PG and some flavourings but thats not a common occurance.I would let him try a few tokes on your setup and see what he thinks of it.He may need a higher Nic level, but thats not a problem. That's reassuring. Vaping has to be better for him than smoking. I called round to see him and he tried my Twist. I had it turned up high to suit me but it was too strong for him. The lowest setting suited him. He was very impressed. I hadn't read your reply when I was talking to him so suggested he mention it to his doctor next week. Looks like we might have found a way to finally get him (and me) off the smokes. Firinblanks: Thanks for the link to that thread. COPD is horrible. Fear of falling victim to it is my primary motivation for finding a way to quit smoking. I really feel confident that vaping will work.

Chrissie: I'm not kidding. I'm the kind of smoker who wants to start a new cigarette as soon as I've stubbed out the last one. A couple of drags on this Twist is enough for me. I'm over the moon.
Just one more question for you seasoned vapers:
One of my relatives, a very heavy smoker of rollies, has COPD. From the little I know of it, COPD is a smoking related illness that affects the heart and lungs. I think that these e-cigs could help him quit the stinkies. Have any of you heard of anyone with COPD switching from cigs to vaping?

Also, the Twist will improve things a lot - just turn the voltage up gradually until you get to the point you want. The Twists will be pre-charged so you can try them whenever you want, just screw one of the prefilled on and play around with the adjustment. OK, I couldn't wait to try the twist. I screwed off the cart from the cig-alike and screwed it on to the Twist. I pressed the button 5 times, the light came on and then switched off. I puffed for all I was worth, twisted the voltage adaptor in every direction but nothing happened. Tried this with both Twist batteries. What could I be doing wrong?

Chrissie: I really do think that this will work for me. It feels just like smoking and doesn't taste a whole lot different to smoking. These little cig-alikes will be great for travelling by plane and for driving. I'm really chuffed. Thanks for this great forum and a million thanks to all of you who contributed to this thread. I expect that within the next few weeks I'll be converting some of my relatives to e-cigs.
Jason: Thank you so much. Yes, I think the Twist will sort out any shortcomings, but I'm very pleased with this little cig-alike.

I'm vaping as I type. Thanks Chrissie and Jason for your help but, believe it or not, I had managed to figure it out. This stuff tastes ok but not strong enough for me.......not enough throat hit? It's a bit like trying to smoke an extra mild cig where you drag and drag but can't get no satisfaction. I reckon the twist may sort that out. I had been really worried that the liquid wouldn't taste enough like cigs but it does if only I could get enough out of it. Hope it's not just wishful thinking, but I think this vaping might just work for me.
How will I know when the cart is empty? Or is that another stupid question?

Jason is indeed helpful. He told me to phone him if I need any help and I will phone him if I can't figure it out.
I'm inclined to follow Graham's advice and try the small kit first. It comes with instructions on how to charge the battery, so even I should be able to manage that. And yes, I think the carts are pre-filled. I'll give it a try later and see what happens. Have to smoke a few cigs first just to psyche myself up.

Yes, I don't want to go at it like a bull in a china shop. I have two sets - the Twist with spare plus a small portable kit. I need to sort out which is which and keep them separate until I know what I'm doing.
Good to know that the sample juices are ready to use.

I have it. Big jiffy bag with lots of little stuff inside. I opened the bag, had a look at the contents and promptly put them all back in the bag. I know it's weird, but I had been watching for the postman like a kid expecting birthday cards. Now, I'm feeling a bit daunted. I'll take it all out again at the weekend and practice assembling it whilst watching one of the Youtube videos. I'm not sure how long I should wait before I start vaping. Isn't it best to wait at least a few days to give the liquid time to mature, or did I get that bit wrong?

Judging by the video posted by FirinBlanks, everything looks very clean and clinical but cleanliness isn't really what bothers me. I'm more concerned about the actual ingredients and whether any of them, other than nicotine, are harmful or addictive. I'm inclined to think that suspect ingredients would be noticed and regulated quicker in the US or EU. Perhaps I'm being over-cautious.
Anyway, I'm going to buy the E-cig early next week. I'll have a chat with the vendors and buy the best liquid they have to keep me going for a while. That will do for starters. Fingers crossed it will lead to an end to cigarettes for me.
Thanks a million for all your patience and kindness.

I haven't started vaping yet. I came across this thread when I was about to check for replies on my own thread.
Just a word of caution before raising the matter with your employer. As things stand, you can vape in the loo and claim innocence of smoking if anyone spots the vapour and complains. If vaping on the premises is banned as a result of any formal request to HR, you will be guilty of breaking the rules if caught vaping in the loo. Be careful how you raise the issue with HR.
