Oops! Don't know what happened there, so I'll continue.....
I looked at a few of Scott's excellent reviews. The Provari is out for me. Have visions of rummaging for my specs to read the digital display and that's enough to drive me to drink as well as smoke. I was impressed by a review of a (can't remember the name) Sports E-cig that comes in a little battery charging case. Thinking of buying one of them as well as the Twist.
I have a few lingering reservations about vaping. I'm concerned about swapping one addiction for another. I realise that the liquid doesn't contain as many harmful ingredients as cigaretted but I'm sure that when cigarettes were first introduced they didn't have added chemicals. What's to prevent these liquid sellers adding harmful, addictive chemicals if not now, then somewhere down the road? For that reason, I'm very reluctant to buy anything made or sourced in China or Eastern Europe, no matter how reputable the company. I came across a website that listed a number of liquid sellers whose ingredients were sourced in the EU or USA. Do any of you have similar reservations and, if so, have you found a reliable vendor of e-liquids?

Thanks Chrissie and Brian. I'll phone Vapeescape next week to place the order. I'll definitely want at least one wall plug. The pick n mix should do for starters while I learn how to use the e-cig. I have plenty of cigarettes to keep me going until I find the right liquid for me. Time, now, to start researching cigarette tasting vapours. El Toro Puros as recommended by Ant are top of my list, but I'll need to get some other flavours just in case.
I really appreciate all the advice I have received in response to my questions and I apologise for not thanking everyone individually.

Thanks Brian. I assumed the charger would be one that plugs into a wall socket, so I'll make sure to specify that.
Will I need 1 or 2 thread covers?
Do you know whether I can phone Vapeescape on Saturday because I'll be busy until the weekend. On second thoughts, maybe best to leave it until next week, giving me more time to choose flavours.

Thanks a million for all your encouragement and advice.
I have decided to get the Ego-C Twist vv because it seems to fit the bill for me. I'm thinking of buying:
1 Charger 2 Batteries (1000 Mah Steel or Black) 1 Vision Vivi Nova V25 Long Wick (still not certain what that is but it looks impressive) 1 Box of 5 Boge 510 Low Resistance Cartomisers
I think that's the lot except maybe drip tips? From what I can see, drip tips look like the part that goes in the mouth. I had a look but there is such a huge range I'm not sure what to choose. I don't think I would like the round ones. Would the flat tips be ok? They seem to come in plastic, rubber or steel. Don't fancy putting steel or rubber in my mouth, so would plastic be best?
Am I leaving anything out? I know I'll need juice but I want to get the gadget sorted before going through all the flavours.

Just two more questions and then I promise not to ask any more:
1. What is the difference between PG and VG juices?
2. Is all that vapour really necessary? I'd rather not have to go outdoors to vape just because the e-cig throws out as much steam as a boiling kettle. Does reducing the vapour lessen the hit from the juices?
I'm getting there. Thank you all so very much. I'm going to spend a few days reading and re-reading all your advice by which time I think I should be good to go. I really don't care what the e-cig looks like so long as it's effective. I stopped worrying about appearance the day I retired from work. Nowadays it's comfort before style all the way.
Fingers crossed that this will work for me and in the not too distant future I can come back on here and encourage someone else to kick the ciggies for good.

Thank you all very much for taking the time to help me. I’m still trying to get things straight in my head, so I’m afraid I have some more questions:
Chrissie, Pinkerbell, Brian and Gothiclord: I notice that lots of people recommend the Riva but I think I recall seeing a mention that the battery is not strong enough for using long term at low resistance. I’m inclined to rule out the Riva because I suspect that I will need to use low resistance for a quite a while. Am I foolish to rule it out for that reason? I’m in no hurry to buy……still have a large stock of cheap cigs from holidays.
Sandra: No, I don’t like menthol. Right now, for me it’s a regular ciggie taste or nothing. The Vape Esacape Vision says it’s a 900 kit. Does that mean that I would be confined to using products designed just for that kit? I have seen lots of mention that getting something compatible with a 510 is important. Am I correct in thinking that 900 is the strength of the battery and 510 has something to do with how the bits screw together. In short, would that 900 kit be interchangeable with 510 bits?
Onedayillquit: Thanks for simplifying things for me. It really helps. There’s very little mention about battery chargers. Does the quality of charger vary. Can I buy, for example, a Provari battery and and Ego charger and must both the battery and charger be the same brand? What’s the difference between a cartomiser and a clearo?
Johanino: I think you’re right about my needing stronger nicotine levels. Reckon that’s where I’ll have the most trouble. I had a look at the Premium Ego Style starter kit. Noticed a comment that the charger is “a bit wimpy”, which is rather offputting. I’m hoping for hassle free from the start.
Booblay: I’m leaning towards the Provari or the Ego Twist as suggested by Globalbloke. The extra outlay for Provari might prove to be foolish if vaping doesn’t work, but this being my last chance to kick the habit I intend to persevere so something durable could be more cost effective in the long term.
Bigg and Ant: The El Toro looks good but the highest nicotine strength seems to be 18mg, which might not be enough for me. I suppose it’s a matter of trial and error, so I’ll give it a try.
Globalbloke: I had more or less settled on a Provari until I read your reply. Now I’m not so sure. You’re right that I’ll need to crank up the voltage. What do you mean by delivery system? Even as I type, I know that this is a really stupid question, but where exactly does a Vivi Nova fit in with a twist? Is it an extra attachment?
Again, many thanks for all your advice. When I found this forum I thought I wouldn’t need to join - that I could find out everything from reading lurking and reading others’ Q&A, but thanks to you kind people this thread is making a huge difference to me.

I'm a 50 a day Rothmans/Marlboro Red smoker and am going to try e-cigarettes/vaping. Maybe I'm particularly thick, but I have read so much and find that the more I read the less I take in. For example, I'm still not sure whether there is a difference between e-cigarettes and vaping. My brain is swamped with jargon that makes no sense (and yes, I have read the explanatory threads here including the Wikipedia list of terminology)
I just want to give up smoking. I'm not interested in smoking fruit/chocolate/coffee or anything else that doesn't taste similar to a cigarette. Perhaps I will change my mind about that somewhere down the line, but right now I need something that tastes as close as possible to my ciggies. It doesn't have to look or handle like a ciggies, but the taste is very important.
What should I buy? I don't care if the initial outlay is expensive....it couldn't be much more expensive than my wasted hypnotist visit. I don't want to buy something that will have to be replaced after a short while. I have figured out that I will need a few batteries and cartomisers (atomisers?). Looks like I will also need something with low resistance.
I have seen mention of Provari, Pandora, Joy something or other, Boge, etc. but I can't figure out whether they are atomisers, chargers, batteries or something else. Just when I think I have cracked the code, I read something else that sets me back to square one.
Can some kind person please give me a precise list of good quality items to buy. Apologies if this post appears rude. Confusion and desperation have driven me to starting this thread.
