Once you recoil the Ithaka and screw the first section on the ceramic, make sure you don't screw it flush or past the rubber o-ring. I screwed to more or less flush as per Imeo's video and I lost 2ml of juice straight in to the Provari. After cleaning it I left 2 or 3mm gap before the o-ring and it sealed nicely. Cheers. Was it that you weren't then screwing the rebuildable part (containing the ceramic) down into the first section (the basic feed control) as this would cause a leak. From 'Ithaka the movie' as I now call it the sequence should be: 1) screw the basic feed down to the o-ring 2) screw the basic feed into the base 3) screw the rebuildbale part further into the basic feed until you can't screw it further and the basic feed hole is either over the wick / blocking the wick as you prefer.

Lovely stuff - thanks bennyboy. I will definitely skip to the nitty gritty at some point but I'd say my attention span will be reduced to a matter of seconds when I open the package tonight
Update: it's a fog machine

It seems I only de-lurk when I get a new atty. Seeing as mine is sitting at home waiting for me to get back, does anybody have a link to a simplified set-up tutorial or is Imeo's 50 minute epic still the best bet. I have a penny so I'm familiar with GG coil making - just looking for the quickest way to screw the thing together once I get it in my sweaty palms.

Oh yeah, that's it - that's what I meant to say. If anything, it might give the over-worked Penelope a night off.

Caved in and ordered one last night at 7:02pm. Gordy, you have a lot to answer for.

Ooh ooh - another improvement.... Sat the coil a little higher in the ceramic and not a single gurgle never mind a leak. Best flavour yet. Liking this little beauty more by the day - going back to the mini vivi's during the day at work is becoming more of a struggle.

Must've been the case Gordy - didn't look long enough to do it but can't see any other explanation. Also put a bit of extra lubrication on the plastic spacer but if I had a good seal at the base that shouldn't have been a significant enough factor.
Have to say that I seem to have found my perfect vaping set up now and I can stop searching for new hardware and just enjoy the juice.

Bank Holidays here (Ireland) really slow the post down I've noticed - both before and after. As a vendor though, I can't speak highly enough of e-smokeireland. Paul is a top bloke and very well respected in the vaping community here and offers a fantastic service. Good to see a very progressive vendor engage with customers and add to his range accordingly. I may be biased of course - just dropped in to his to collect my Provari Mini to make sure I had it for the weekend

Thought I'd post an update just in case somebody stumbles across this thread years from now. Delighted to say my problems are no more. Had been trimming the wick on the posi side down to the bottom of the o-ring on the centre post. Made (yet) another coil but this time trimmed it above the o-ring at the base of the nut above and it's made the world of difference. Surprised that such a minor adjustment could yield such a different result. Also picked up my Provari Mini today - good lord, I thought all the hype about them delivering a smoother vape than other mods was just that. Coupled with the Penny I am in Vape-heaven.

The Guevara? Lovely (now). Bought both the Guevara and Virginia Prime and had far preferred the VP until I got the Penelope. Now the Guevara is coming into it's own - not unlike the Puros but richer, more complex and less sweet and nutty - tastes as good as a good cigar smells.

So attached have I been to the Penny since I got it that I abandoned any principles of method. Attached a vivi nova to the gripper and you know what, that was shorting too as soon as I tightened it. Closer inspection revealed that the grommet inside the 510 connector had split causing a short under any degree of pressure. Took it apart, replaced the grommet with one from the bottom of a vivi nova head, super glued her back up and she's vaping like a demon. Also fitted a spare o-ring behind the plastic spacer on the penny centre pole which gives me an extra mm clearance and a little more compression. El Toro Guevera has never tasted this great. Had enough of flaky mods though and think I might be able to get away with using this experience as a tortured self-justification to buy a Provari Mini.

Tried a number of different wicks Gordy - either 3mm or 3.5mm with or without a 2mm buffer section underneath the coil. Either ready wires or small neat joins hidden underneath the wick and not exposed in any way. Negative side cut just below the housing and positive side cut at the point of the centre post o-ring,

Thanks Chrissie.
Right, followed the above to the letter, some fiddling, some progress but no real conclusions. Today I learned....... - post out by 0.5 mm - this is the amount of extension I get following the above method, leaking from the off - post out 1mm, the occasional bit of gurgling and the odd blow through required every 15 minutes or so - post out 1.5 mm, absolutely spot on in terms of being able to control the vape but post seems too long for the gripper and it will be pretty tempremental and short frequently
The liquid control in the above scenarios is open about 1/2 a turn although flavour and vapour production suggest that an extra 1/4 of a turn would make a whole lot of difference. If I screw in the rebuildable in past the 1mm point I start to feel some good o-ring resistance implying a good seal - anything less then the threads seem to move too freely suggesting the issue may be down to poor o-ring compression. I've ordered some fatter o-rings on eBay which might give me a good seal with less extension but Hong Kong post doesn't seem to be what it used to be which gives me a few weeks to play before they arrive and I can throw them into the mix.
We're not talking major leaking by any means, just a few drops but I can't help but think there's a really easy solution out there as the engineering of this device seems spot on.
Any ideas welcome.

Lol that was mod envy caught on camera alright - despite the casual vaping pose there's envy in them eyes. It's all your fault. Ta for the link.
