I have to say I prefer a separate PSU.
Gives me more flexibility when it breaks or we have another power cut, we havea lot of power cuts!

Decision made. I went with the Efest LUC battery charger from Vape-it UK. Factors: 1. Availability, will have it by Friday. 2. Price, £19.99 delivered with AAEC10 discount code. 3. Extras, has USB power out, car charger, USB cable, PSU. Thanks for all your input folks  |

I know there have been several mentions of this subject but after an hours searching I can't find my answer. What is the best battery charger for multiple 18650/18350/18340/14500/10440 batteries? Ideally I wan't one with a display that can take up to four batteries. That's all the batteries I have so i though I should list them. Thank you please  |

I looked at the board you pointed out fred and you are right, it's limited to 1a, but...... If you change the resistor I circled you should be able to change the amp output: 
A value of about 500r should give you 2 amps. Would have to play with one and do some sums to be certain. Is a PITA changing SMD components though, even with a 0.5mm tip on your iron. |

I would assume a large capacitor or small battery does the work, will have to buy one and take it apart to be sure.

Then I really wonder what they put into those usb only passthrough thingies as they only operate via usb (computer or charger) and work just fine A commercial USB PT charges the battery at about 5v and 420mah and you draw power from the battery as normal. They are not true PT's though, more like a trickle charger. If you chain vaped constantly for about 20 hours you could deplete the battery and would then have to wait for it to charge. |

testdruifAs I said, i'm no electrical engineer, but as far as I'm aware, it doesn't matter how much current you throw at that board, it will still only output 5V @ 1a. That board has a rated output of 2a max (3a with heatsink) |

I have made plenty of PT mods which run direct from PC USB out.
A straight connection of USB +/- to the 510 connection will give you 5v and I run my own PT's at that. It's a bit high for some folks though.
You won't get them to work as VV though, you will want a 2a minimum which you can get from a USB mains hub.
A simple resistor bridge or diode chain down to 3.8v still needs the bigger amps.
