For the best results You should be aiming to finish off any bottle of nicotine base that is in day to day use within 6 months - but this will depend on how you store it /how hot your house is if just left on a shelf.
This means large bottles of nicotine base (250ml an above) should be split down to 1x 50ml/100ml bottle that is used for day to day mixing - keep in a cool spot or fridge
the remaining part of the batch/bottle is best off stored in a freezer.

The smell and the taste are the things to watch out for if you are getting an over powering peppery taste* interfering with your enjoyment or just find the smell** is overpowering even when mixed down to your finished strength then it is time to bin your remaining nicotine and start on a fresh bottle.

** The normal range for fit to use nicotine base is from a nice nutty /earthy smell to a slight chemical smell ----But not overpowering or rank
Colour change over time is normal - VG will change colour far faster than PG.
