I suppose having re-read my orignal post it does sound a bit dramatic - I don't think the phlegm is any blacker than it should be - I've never been a great fan of getting a cold and have in the past gone years without having one at all (despite smoking) - it's just that I happen to have had three in the last 6 months!  |

Yeah - I'm not concerned enough to be going to the doctors about it - just interested in thoughts.
Obviously I wasn't happy to have a second cold in under two months. But then I do live with two young children one of whom is of the age where coughing porridge into my face is nothing out of the ordinary.
The phlegm is black, but not always - more often than not it's got black bits in it. It's not all the time either - and although revolting there is something satisfying about it. As has been suggested, I'm assuming it's my lungs having a clear out.
I guess initially I was concerned about the second cold, but as it's now clearing I'm not too bothered.
I was sort of hoping for a BANG I've got taste again - but actually it's the smell that smoking affected the most. That does appear to have improved - as has my skin. But it's all very subjective and you can never really be sure what's going on inside. Everyone is different which makes the whole process even more confusing.

On Monday I'll be 3 weeks into vaping. It's been a learning curve and I've spent far more than anticipated on vaping stuff. Specifically juices. I've still not found the perfect vape, but cinnamon hots appears to have the most potential.
So anyway - a year ago I gave up smoking for about 10 weeks and used the mouth spray. It worked, to the point of helping me stop, but never gave anything like the satisfaction and ease of stopping I'm getting from vaping. And of course I started again.
So this time round there are huge differences in what appears to be happening to me. Is it coincidence or is it vape related?
Last time I didn't get a cold when I stopped. Not as far as I can remember. In fact I don't recall noticing any improvements in smell taste or health having given up for that length of time. But this time round I feel a bit plagued with coughs and colds. I had just recovered from a cold about a week before I stopped fags, then a week into vaping I get another cold - which now appears to be going. But throughout that time I've been coughing up a reasonable amount of black phlegm. Obviously it's black because of the fags, but why this time and not the last time?
I genuinely do not recall coughing any of the black stuff when I gave up last year. So my real question is, do you think vaping maybe accelerating my cough, or is it simply because I've had a cough that it's all coming up? I'm not particularly concerned, just interested to know why it's happening this time round when my giving up process still involves inhaling into my lungs, but last time round - nothing!
Still waiting for some decent taste to return too -

I sort of mixed my own apple cinnamon last night from a sample of apple I got with my first order. Turned out rather nice.
I find this whole vaping thing like going into a sweet shop for the first time and finding they have rows and rows of sweets I've never tried before. My mouth waters on every page and I have to hold back from doing a bit of happy clicking. It's so easy to order this stuff, I don't even need to get out my card, all done via Paypal - it's frightening!

Excellent post and just the one I've been looking for. Great descriptions on the liquids you've tried so far - and on that basis I've just ordered some of the Apple XO from Liberty flights.
I too have been spending waay too much on juice in search of my 'go to' flav. So far the only one I keep going back to is Cinnamon Hots.
I'm two weeks in today and have had a nasty cold for the past week - so I've lost pretty much all my taste and smell for the past week - Cinnamon Hots being the only exception. Desperate to get some taste back ASAP. Today there are signs of a return, but still way off what is was when I starting vaping two weeks ago.
I like a good throat hit and accidentally bought some 50/50 (???) which doesn't have the same hit as a 30/70 or whatever it is - but you're description of a decent throat hit persuaded me to give the Apple XO a try -
so thank you very much!

So today it's been a week since I stopped and started vaping.
I've found it all quite easy so far - partially down to the advice I gained from here. I've spent £70 on kit, and juice, which is roughly half what I spend in a month on fags. So next week I break even - and should still have enough juice to last me for three more months - at least!
A couple of beginner questions though.
1: I got the Riva kit, which came with two batteries, 5 carts and 2 atomisers. How many times can I reuse the carts? I've cleaned one by removing the padding, rinsing it with water and letting it dry - so far so good - still works.
2: I have two atomisers, how long are these expected to last and should I be ordering more?
3: I instead ordered a clearomiser, again, how long do these last and should I be ordering more? Are these cleanable?

Hello - again! Well I got home, and tried again. Strangely it all started working. I think perhaps in my rush to get it all up and running (whilst at work) - maybe I didn't put enough juice into it? Either way - I'm actually rather chuffed now. As I have two in my pocket, different flavors and 48 hours since my last real fag!  It all feels a bit too good to be true. What are the drawbacks? |

Hi Dan and welcome. Where did you get your kit from? It sounds like you have got a separate atomiser and cartridge set up? If you have, you drip the liquid onto the wadding in the cartridge which you then put onto the atomiser to transfer the liquid to the heating coil in the atomiser. If you just connect the atomiser you will see the coil glowing red. Hello... I filled the wadding up with juice, and then attached it to the atomiser - which then screws onto the battery. But it doesn't work - or at least nothing is produced. I've got two, and the other works fine. I got the kit from freedom-vape and Kev has said he'll send me out a replacement. So I presume it's simply faulty. I did try and add a bit of juice to the tip of the cone, but that did nothing either. Ho hum! |

Hi cokemachine. Welcome to the forum. Is it a cartomiser that isnt working or a clearomiser? Sent from my Galaxy Note 2 Hey - I think it's a cartomiser. A cartomiser being the bit with the wadding inside it that slides onto the atomiser yeah? |

Hello...
My name is Dan. I'm not sure where the CokeMachine came from, but I thought it sounded quite nice.
Anyway, I've signed up because I've started to vape, and took the various bits of advice given out here as an instruction on how to do it. I ordered a Riva 1100mah Kit which arrived this morning. I also got a couple of different flavor juices to get me going.
But I already have my first question. I have two atomizers, with the kit I got, one seems to work fine, and produces everything you'd expect. The other simply glows red and produces no noise and no vapor.
Is it faulty? Or am I doing something wrong?
