...sorry posted but didn't see enjay's post about the 14G needle, which kind of answers the question about the mm of the screwdriver

Sorry to hear you are having so much trouble clivealive1.
Generally does it matter what mm the jewellers screwdriver I use in terms of the resistance, 2mm makes the coils wide, so could I wrap the coils around a 1mm screwdriver?
Also, the mesh company sent me some 0.15 Kanthal as a freebie, do you use this in the same way as 0.25 kanthal, same number of wraps etc, or is it used differently?

I don't really understand how the legs are facing different ways after 6 coils, but if they are, how about doing six & a half coils? I think you need a decent cooking blow torch or a gas hob unless you have a very fancy lighter. Don't do what I did and get a mini ego-sized thing, it is too awkward to use. You'll have a pretty low resistance coil with .25 unless it is a microcoil, because you can't make it too long on a protank. Which may or may not matter depending on your mod.ards Thanks for replies. I think I am getting confused about what "facing the same way" meant, I think the legs on my coils are probably ok, basically they are turning inwards, facing each other, I'm not very good with the this stuff, easily left puzzled and scratching my head, sorry. Yes I am going to buy a blow torch definitely. I want around 1.2 ohms or therabouts so the kanthal will be good I think, yes, I noticed there was not much room.

Thanks for that. Still not getting how you can make the legs face the same way, after 6 winds around a jewellers screwdriver my coil legs were facing opposite ways. It looks in the video like his are too, I couldn't really see. Did he line up the legs to face the same way after torching? I need to buy a little blow torch, the lighter I have is not cutting it. So for the time being the 0.25 Kanthal is good for building standard coils?

Just built a protank coil using 6 wraps of 0.25 kanthal, I was attempting to build a micro coil but could not get the wire to stay together by flaming it with a lighter. I was going off Super Shiny's micro coil and cotton guide. So the standard type coil I have ended up with is reading 1.3 ohms. Is this type of Kanthal good for building standard coils? Since that is what I've ended up with. Also, the legs after wrapping are facing opposite ways, in Super Shiny's guide it said the legs should face the same way, but since mine has not turned out to be a microcoil, is this ok?

To be honest singeing isn't really a problem unless you vape at exceedingly high watts. Almost all Protank, Evod, iClear etc etc heads are made with single wires rather than NR/R/NR The combi wires are belt-and-braces and not a necessity. I have microcoils in all my Protanks and have never burned a grommet. Great, thanks, I'll get on with attempting a rebuild then

NR/R/NR wires means that the bit that is actually coiled is made of resistance wire which gets hot. The legs are made of non-resistance wire which stays cool. This prevents the legs getting hot and avoids the possibility of singeing the rubber grommet. Thanks, the micro coils are made from one piece of kanthal link how do you then avoid singeing?

I bought everything from the list from Super Shiny's microcoil and cotton rebuilding guide on here. While I was waiting for it to arrive I purchased some pre made coils for rebuilding off ebay. Now that these have arrived I notice that the wire of the legs looks a different colour to the wire of the coil (legs look like they have been soldered on), these coils were listed as "Nichrome wire (non resistant/resistant/non resistant)". I'm not really sure what this means. I just want to ask why the wire of the legs is different to the wire of the coils? and in what way are mico coils different from standard coils? I will be attempting to rebuild micro coils from the guide using Kanthal wire

Yes and that would be fab, would love that, thanks Cushty, I've put in my diary. I'll bring a full coiling kit. I may get Alan to tell others. It was very important to me to have a "hands on" demo beforeI started coiling. I would like to offer a recoiling service at the meets, but I have nightmares of 30 people turning up with 10 coils each. How is a man meant to pissed under them circumstances. If you think it may be for you, I'll give you some wire to get you started and book you in to lead the next tutorial 6 weeks from then. Great stuff, looking forward to it, thank you.

Ta yeah, putting some cotton into a protank head sounds like it's doable, and thanks for the link to the rebuilding info. I think I need to ask someone at the meet to do a demo for me as well, might demystify it all a bit Are you the same Niamh on ukvapers who comes to the London meets? If so bring any old heads to the next meet and I'll demo Super-Shiny 's tutorial. I'll bring some heads too so we can run through it a few times. You'll soon be bashing them out in minutes. Yes and that would be fab, would love that, thanks

Ta, yeah the cotton as a wick seems to be a winner. Maybe I'll get round to actually rebuilding something one day.

I've heard people say they were using cotton in their rebuilt atomizers, I don't rebuild but I just cut a little piece off a shop bought cotton pad (the circles you get for make up removal) and used it in my protank as a flavour wick. Seems to be working really well, but should I use these cotton pads? and is there anything I should do to them before using?
