I've heard people say they were using cotton in their rebuilt atomizers, I don't rebuild but I just cut a little piece off a shop bought cotton pad (the circles you get for make up removal) and used it in my protank as a flavour wick. Seems to be working really well, but should I use these cotton pads? and is there anything I should do to them before using?

I don't use flavour wicks on top of coils, but some people swear by them. I use pads to seperate the dual coils in the protank 3 though. I personally find the pads too thick, so I split them by holding the outside bits and pulling. I then use the fluffy inside bit. I keep meaning to have a go at use long thin slices as wicks in a Vivi Nova, but I love them protanks. If it works for you keep doing what your doing.

If it works well then keep doing it, as they say don't fix something that ain't broke The only thing i would suggest is use organic cotton, but that's just me.

Ta, yeah the cotton as a wick seems to be a winner. Maybe I'll get round to actually rebuilding something one day.

I noticed on another thread, people have been opening up their protank/evid heads and picking out the silica wick with tweezers. Then dry burning and brushing off any gunged up juice. Then rewicking with cotton wool to give old heads a new lease of life. No need to coil and a good warm up to wicking before you take the plunge into coiling.

I use cotton pads for all my coils as I can never seem to get an even wick by pulling balls or pleats - they always seem lumpy I just separate one of the outside edges away from the rest and use what is left.

Ta yeah, putting some cotton into a protank head sounds like it's doable, and thanks for the link to the rebuilding info. I think I need to ask someone at the meet to do a demo for me as well, might demystify it all a bit

The only wick I use in all my coils now is boots cotton wool ball, teased out into a strand-ish.
I don't care if it's lumpy, bumpy, longer on one side, fat in the middle, as long as it has a thin end to fit through the coil....job done!
I'm using them in everything, CE5's, eVods, protanks, Novas, RDA's, Genesis....
Not had poor flavour or a dry hit in six months.

If so bring any old heads to the next meet and I'll demo Super-Shiny 's tutorial. I'll bring some heads too so we can run through it a few times. You'll soon be bashing them out in minutes.

Hi niamh297, I've been using the organic cotton pads as couldn't get hold of organic cotton balls, no problems so far, I use the bit in the middle. I used none organic cotton balls to start with and would find a nasty taste when ran too low in dripper...Since found out that's probably bleach so got organic!! And as seniorphil said, you can swap the silica wick for cotton if your careful, I've done this and works fine as well as you 'guess' the right amount to use.

I'll bring a full coiling kit. I may get Alan to tell others. It was very important to me to have a "hands on" demo beforeI started coiling. I would like to offer a recoiling service at the meets, but I have nightmares of 30 people turning up with 10 coils each. How is a man meant to pissed under them circumstances. If you think it may be for you, I'll give you some wire to get you started and book you in to lead the next tutorial 6 weeks from then.

Tonight I've just re coiled my KF 3.1 and Taifun GT clones using super shinny's micro coil method and cotton wool from the wife's stock of make up removing cotton pads ... Cut a 5-7 mm stip ... Peel off the outer layers .. Roll up what's left and hey presto ... Perfect CW Wick ... Worth having a go ...

if you havent got organic cotton the best thing to do is to leave them in boiling water for about 5 minutes, put them in a sive & squash the water out then stick them on the radiator until dried out. this gets rid of all the stuff in the cotton. its what i do & i agree with you all it tastes so much better
