Hi James, and welcome Like the other peeps I’d say that a basic 510 starter probably wouldn’t be the way to go for you. As a 20 a day man you’d find that you needed to recharge the battery several times a day. Also small batteries (the ones that look approx ciggy sized) wouldn’t allow you to try out lower resistance cartomizers later. They just don’t have the oomph for it. Being as you’re on a tight budget, and you smoke 20 tabs a day, I think you should get yourself a basic Ego or Riva starter kit. They’re a bit bigger than a standard 510 ciggy sized model, but they’ll be far more cost effective in the longer term. Something to bear in mind on the running costs front, all e-cig batteries have a maximum no of charging cycles built in before the battery needs replacing. Most claim around 300 charges max, but it’d be better to play safe and assume 200. The higher the mah rating, the longer the time the battery will give power before it needs recharging. I’ll use myself as an example (I smoked approx 20 a day). I started out with a small lookalike e-cig with maybe 180mah batteries, and I needed to charge them about 4 times during the day. So from that you can see I’d have been replacing them in less than 2 months (at best). However I wised up and got myself a Riva kit with 650mah batteries, and I only need to charge them up once a day, so each battery should last more than 6 months (I got 2 batteries with the kit so I could be ok for 12 months!). Basically with e-cigs, the more it looks like a normal cigarette, the more it will cost you to run. Though he didn’t mention it, this kit that Jason sells is amazing value (it comes with 2x1100mah batteries!): www.vapeescape.co.uk/the%2Driva%2D1100%2Ddeluxe%2Dkit%2D%5Bideal%2Dfor%2Dbeginners%5D%7E151On the nic strength, there doesn’t seem to be a direct correlation between e-cigs and real tabs. The way they deliver the nic is different. I found the info here to be very useful: www.e-cigarette-forum.com/index.php/beginner-ecigarette-tutorial-2.htmlBTW, most online suppliers take PayPal, so you don't really need a credit card. Hope all that helped, John

Oh and in the Riva kit there was a charger box which was empty - but there was a seperate plug with a USB adapter. Presumably this was in place of the empty charger box - would this sound correct? Hi Nig, Yeah that got me on the Riva kit I got as well. Heh. Figured that's the box that the adapter would've been in if it was a one of the small flat 2 pin jobbies (US/EU) that are shown in a lot of the kit pics elsewhere. John P.S. Welcome BTW

An over night Vodka bath has been known to help a little with some atomisers. Just had a thought. Might meths work as well as vodka? I can see several advantages. Firstly it will be cheaper. And secondly I won't be tempted to mix it with orange juice or tonic water and drink it! A bunch of folks recommend soaking in IPA (Isopropyl alcohol) or rubbing alcohol overnight. Both are dead cheap on ebay. After it's evaporated off I'd still prob give em a boiling water rinse though just to be on the safe side. Cheers, John

Hi, I was just browsing over at UKVapers and noticed a discussion about a logo for ECCA and it got me thinking about the name itself. The 'ECCA' bit I get, but why the 'UK'? I mean the US version (CASAA) didn't feel the need to add 'US' at the end. Surely by it's nature ECCA is a local (UK) organisation, so why further specify? If consumer organisations spring up in other countries then they too will be local and have to deal with other national govts etc, and unless English speaking, would be unlikely to settle on a similar name. Not trying to be funny here, I just don't see the logic so I thought I'd ask. If there's no strong reason for the 'UK' bit, then following the 'KISS' principle it should be dropped. Would also make designing the logo a tad easier All the best, John

@ Jason & Andy,
Ta for the info. I only used my passthru for a couple of days while waiting for my Riva delivery, but in that time my pc did crash a couple of times, which made me a little suspicious (rock solid before and since). Then I started reading around and saw stuff about shorted batts / usb overloads etc, and decided to pick up a hub or mains adapter. I'd thought an independantly powered hub might be ok, but now I think I'll just play safe and go for a mains adapter.
Cheers, John

steve386Like your new 'themed' banners a lot! Especially the halloween one. Wasn't sure what to expect from the Van Gogh one, a severed ear maybe? Good stuff, John

Hi, Got quick question on the passthru, on the Vapeescape site it says: "Please note: This is a Passthrough only and will only provide power when connected to your USB PC Port. It should not be used with any other Mains powered USB Hub or adapter)"However I seem to recall on a different thread that peeps recommended that you should use a separate usb hub or mains adapter ??? I only ask because I have a basic 510 passthru like this: www.cloud9vaping.co.uk/epages/yxve46fvrnud.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/yxve46fvrnud/Products/51059-SAnd I've been avoiding using it till I picked up a hub or mains adapter. Any info appreciated, John

Sorry to butt in, but I have a battery question though it's probably a stupid one as usual. Is it OK to get a more powerful (higher mAh) battery and use it on an e cig that normally takes a lower mAh battery? T.Y. Hi Fuzzy, Stoopid? No way. Not asking would be stoopid lol Anyways, yes, higher mah is no problem. mah isn't more power, just more volume, so higher mah just means the battery will last longer before it neeeds recharged. Cheers, John P.S. Gordy beat me to it, but then again it's late, I've had a few beers, and I'm a slow typer. heh
