For your haunted pleasure, I've rolled my dice and selected from my library of sin and delight the ethereal Whistle Theme by Mark Knopfler (from Local Hero)

Cousin Itt Thanks for the magnet dimensions. I can see for this and for other Mechs that I'm going to need to start holding some varients. Could you recommend a source ? osdset (curious alias, btw) I seems to me that the insulator threading doesn't naturally line up with the brass top cap threading. I got around this by removing the insulator, screwing on an atty (KF 3.1) and then from the underside screwing on the insulator and tightening it as much as I could to hold it in place (Marigolds can be used to free it). I wonder if you've sheered off the threading on the insulator (or it, to your misfortune, simply wasn't threaded in your mod). Which atty(s) are you using? - I've only used KF's (genuine) and a cloned Squape and didn't see a problem just using the top cap without insulator (apart from anxiety). I'm finding I like this more and more, despite it's flaws.

I live in continuous admiration of the wealth that is this bulletin board. I'd guess what this is good for in this context is to determine how effective or suitable VV/VW mod is for vaping. This looks like it will be used to measure pulse I think (and I'm really only passing on what I've gleaned and I'm oh so fallible) this is measuring the pulse modulation used to control the voltage regulator. See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulse-width_modulationNow, this matters for vaping because, well, compare say an SVD with a mechanical mod when firing. Listen to it... Notice a regular crackle? That's fast pulses of current (voltage?) being fed to the attomiser to (sort of) average out the voltage. The Mech? Well that should be smooth (it's a continuous direct current). I think the difference between say a Semovar v3 or a Provari and an SVD or a Vamo is the frequency of the pulses (SV or P very fast pulses, SVD or Vamo not so fast) and the faster the pulse the less noticeable. robby , VapingBad - I think you two both know what your talking about so perhaps it's time to step in and correct / clarify / use better language that this layman can muster.

anyway my guess would be that youve killed the magnets in the switches At risk of diverging the thread, wouldn't that just have damaged the repelling force which holds the connectors apart and thus cause a continuous fire (or at least a very easy fire) ?

Coating? No coating should be present - you're not cleaning the threads with something odd like Brasso (which leaves a film), are you? Mind you, that will only reduce conductivity / increase resistance. I'm assuming that you've allowed to dry ('cause it's obvious, but it's the obvious that catches us out, right...) Are you certain there's no short? Do the batteries heat when you try and fire? Maybe restrip the switches and see if anything jumps out the second time? One big damn puzzler (which is also the name of a brilliant novel). I fear a multimeter is going to be your friend come Monday.

Nice find, but am I being just a touch cynical to think any action against the offending parties will be "lost" in a sea of red tape? Only cynicism is defined as informed expectation.

On the assumption that vaping won't kill us or won't as kill as many of us as Smoking or as quickly... A couple of other money angles relating to life expectancy to ponder upon:
Pensions: What happens when the average life expectancy of smokers increases.
Pension, Trust Funds, Bonds, Insurance, etc.... There's a lot of corporate and institutional capital invested in Pharmaceutical and Tobacco industries. Here we have a product that will damage subsections of the Pharmaceutical Industry and a considerable portion of the Tobacco Industry.
I believe this is a big part of what's going on.

Off topic: Thanks babs I've noticed that when I insert formatting (in that case Quote) after inserting a link I sometimes loose the MyBBCode for the URL.... I normally remember to check afterwards but was a little two incensed (and distracted by a conversation about root vegetables and variants therein). On topic is worrisome although it would be naive to have thought otherwise.

Spoke to Doris earlier, the top caps we have ARE the upgraded ones!! the old ones didn't have the 'button' in the middle, the atty poked through to connect Thanks. Interesting - I've only been able to get it working as a hybrid by removing the button (not even been able to replicate the initial wonderful success with the Expromizer).

Sorry Q - you're the victim of my confusion. I picked up a couple of the replacement top caps from Focalecig - already shipped - if they are an improvement I'll send one over to you (assuming you haven't dumped the mod by then)..

And... moving swiftly on, we now find ourselves with a rather nice looking Vanilla 18350 mod with an 18650 tube for roughly a tenner ( link).

You are spoilt for choice, despite being a couple of counties further north thank is truly desirable.
To the West you have Exmoor and the delights Dulverton, Woolacombe, Porlock and a fantastic stretch of costal path (Minehead to Coombe Martin).
To the East you have Shapwick Heath (Nature Reserve) and Glastonbury (beyond Tea / Coffee you will find the New Age Tourist market rather expensive but worthy of visiting none-the-less) - for a great inexpensive dinner, I heartedly recommend The Cannards Well just on the outskirts of Shepton Mallett on the A37 (we discovered this by accident a couple of weeks back). Heading upwards there is Bath.
To the South there be Exeter - go to the older parts of the centre, especially the Cathedral
I think I've largely been repeating the above.

Actually that's not the point, you should be able to get it out of the box, stick an atty on, a battery inside and vape, you shouldn't have to modify anything I agree in principle with you , but in one of the reviews i checked before buying it , it did state you may have to playaround with batts & magns etc to get it how you want it , i just thought it was a cheap way to see if mechs were for me I think perhaps a better (kinder) starting point would be a Nemesis, Stingray or Chi You clone.

Wow - back to the thread after a few hours... So much info - huge thanks... What I've learnt so far: - The top cap is kind of sharp around the edges
- Button topped batteries are advised (elsewhere on the web)
- Used as a hybrid it's not at all bad
- The Derlin insulator on the top cap isn't that well threaded (to much resistance on some attys like Genuine KF3.1 / KFL+ / FT FKL+ clone meaning the insulator tends to unscrew - solution is to screw on top cap and then screw on the insulator
- The 510 post / button which screws into the top cap insulator works really nicely with an Expromiser and perhaps other sprung pin attys when the 510 button and the insulator are both partially unscrewed with a flat top 18500 then the throw is nearly as short as the Fortune Mod
- If the atty doesn't protrude through the insulator on the top cap then you've no right to expect a connection when the button is depressed
- If you have an RDA with a short 510 connector then it will operate with large button throw if you remove the top cap insulator - there are obvious risks....
- It's bloody easy to short
- Next time I / we dive into detail on a Group Buy then, as mrlimbo proposes... new thread
Q if the Atty never ever leaks through the 510 connection then remove the button thingy above and run it as a hybrid Q regarding the upgraded top cap on Focalecig I notice it has the same #1077 serial number stamped into the button and pictures look identical so I reckon we may well have the upgraded button / top cap in our mits. Thanks mrlimbo, dagl, geordie_vaper and Cousin Ittgeordie_vaper - If I find I really don't get on with it I'll send it your way and you can pay it forward as feels fitting.
