I use Pro-Power Label Remover for removing my hard-to-budge labels sleedale , just spray a little to the adhesive and leave for a few minutes then rub off with a cloth or kitchen towel, then wash after. Has a nice citrus scent too.

Don't give up on the Protank, I too reckon it's just the drip tip, just change it for either a delrin, acrylic or plastic one and you might find a world of difference.
Also, always wash any new clearos/tanks in warm soapy water (rinse in clean water after) when you first receive them as they will most likely still have some factory machine oil/dust on them.
