I absolutely knew it was necessary and would enhance his life, would be relatively painless, and would make life generally more pleasant for him. Still, when I left him with the vet nurse, I wept because I didn't want to leave him.
The nurse assured me that they would take the greatest care of him. Mungo gave me high 5 and walked away with never a backward glance.( I had given the nurse his tube of pate for rewards and he will follow that anywhere.)
I had 2 hours to kill before I could go to collect him.
I went to buy petrol, bought him more raw meat , went to the supermarket for some food for myself, and for some offal for HIM, took it all home and stowed it in the freezer.
Suddenly it was time to go fetch my boy, and suddenly the traffic was horrendous and every light was red!!
I finally reached him just a couple of minutes late.
''Have you come for Mungo'' they said. ''YES'' I gulped. ''He's been very good, although he's still a bit damp. He didn't like the drier so we've had to dry him by hand'' He's clean and fresh, and smelling rather oddly of flowers, has neat feet and other bits.
He's been ''Poodled'' and he milked every minute of the process.... That's my boy!! Much to his chagrin, Daisy, the one eyed cat, kissed him as he entered the house....

I have three friends who were really impressed with my lack of smoking and bought the gear. (I think I have more than three friends..)
One of those has not smoked since, and the other two are still smoking.
I guess, in the end, you have to to really want to give up the analogues.
For me, it wasn't ever about saving money, more about saving my health whilst I still had a chance to do so.
I knew from my first puff that it was going to work for me but it took me a couple of weeks to get the gear that worked.

I met David Essex once. He was very rude and much smaller than I had imagined. I probably p-ssed him off by not recognising him..... He was had just finished eating a pizza at the time. Maybe he had indigestion..

Blue,
I'm just longing for the opportunity to use the term ''bum gravy'' in conversation.......
Any tips on feeding bone to a 'gulper' dog?

Scylla, I suppose his being there could affect your council tax... I don't suppose that the "powers that be" would recognise your reasons for not declaring him. I don't know what I would do. I believe the Census people do random home visits to confrim the validity of the information they have been given on the forms. If you choose not to declare him, then tell him not to answer the door to anyone for at least a year!!

I try and make sure that Mungo gets 10% offal in his diet but, since I can't bear to touch it, he sometimes gets a bigger chunk than others. I think it averages out over the week. He also likes kidney but I try and buy that ready diced! Chicken livers are good and easy but I probably wouldn't give a whole meal of offal....

Only ever went to Speedway once, and that was back in 1973. I hitch-hiked to Berwick upon Tweed with a friend, the weekend that Sunderland were in the F.A cup final. We didn't have TV in our B&B so went to speedway instead. It was very exciting! Sadly, nobody I have known since then has been remotely interested in coming with me. We don't have a local team but Poole Pirates are only just down the road..

Mungo was on Orijen, £50 a pop, but the recommended 'dose' is much less then cheaper foods, so it wasn't too expensive in the long run.
I wonder why vets are so anti raw food?
It probably costs me more to feed raw so far but that's because I am so disorganised. Mungo was always enthusiastic about his food, even really grotty kibble, but I love feeding him now and seeing the expressions of anticipation and delight when I put his bowl down. He had the back of the rabbit yesterday, and crunched and chewed it really nicely. Maybe he's learning not to gulp his food because it tastes nicer??
How's Murphy liking it so far??
