My poor Tyson (the boxer) has had skin problems on and off for most of his life...he's now 10... It's flared up again and had him at the vet yesterday and he's now on antibiotics and Prednidale (steroid) he's on 4x5mg tabs twice a day and he's just piddling everywhere as it's getting close to bedtime, i'm restricting his water, but the tabs give him a raging thirst, so i feel bad doing it... i've got the back door open, as he can't wait for me to open it, as soon as he gets up, every 15 mins or so, we both make a dash for the door, he dribbles all the way, then quite often can't actually pee once he gets out, but still tries, several times... I think the dose he's on is too much, so will phone vet in the morning....but i'm working fri/sat, 12hr dayshifts and im not sure my old dad will be able to cope...i'm watching him constantly and have a mop at the ready, plus vinegar spray.... so, i'm in a quandry....do i call in and tell the truth and try to get annual leave...or lie and pull a sicky??? either way, the ward is short, through sickness and the fact that it's the ward night out on friday....but i really think it's a bit much to expect an 85yr old man to cope with a poorly dog like this...

Yes, i have Chrissie, i was giving him 1 twice a day and it didn't seem to help, he was on them for several months, i got them from Morrison's pharmacy, altho the last time Gordon got them, they said they could only give him 1 packet, as if they were needed that often, we should have a prescription i haven't read the dosage recommended in your link, it was a different vet who suggested them, and she said to give him 1 twice daily, she said not to buy the one-a-day ones (Pirateeze) maybe i could have upped the dose....i'll have to look into that, thanks Chrissie...i certainly feel like he's on way too high a dose with the prednidale xx

Lilac, I noticed that as well. I wonder if they have stopped selling it & that's an archived page that just came up via my Google search?

Awww poor wee Gizmo, sounds like he's on a steroid as well.....hope its as low a dose as will still help him James, cos those things have bad side effects...
I think so, Chrissie, there's just no way to buy them on there, maybe something to do with a customer contacting the manufacturers and them saying it's not licensed for dogs, says something to that effect in one of the reviews...

Oooo sorry Lilac, got your work days confused . . . don't know quite what to suggest . . . would Tyson use puppy training mats if you left them at the back door or even those Kylie sheets.

I found a couple of the puppy mat thingys i got free when i got Murph, Perp...ive put them down last night when i went to bed, that and loads of sheets of newspaper...they were soaked by the morning..i was up about 4 times to let him out, cos he was crying, but just put more newspaper on top, cos i was so tired... I've decided im gonna just give him 1 tab in the morning before i leave, then hopefully he'll be no too bad when my dad's here... have come to the conclusion that steroid tabs for dogs + working just don't go together....lol

Oh {{{Lilac}}} I'm so sorry that Tyson is ill. That's two dear pets we've got suffering now I tried that Piriton page in Chrome, no price or basket there either I may have misunderstood what's going on or what's req'd here (as usual), but there are Piriton tabs available here: www.expresschemist.co.uk/piriton-allergy-tablets-30x.htmlPossibly the wrong dosage, but... Poor doggie, I do hope he starts to mend very soon scylla

Thanks Scylla...i bought a box of 500 from here.. www.animeddirect.co.uk/dogs/healthcare/Piriton-4mg-Tablets-Pack-of-500.html?cm_mmc=ShoppingSite-_-GoogleShop-_-null-_-nullUpon reading the dosages on other sites, i could have given him double what i did give him, i just went by what the vet said on the phone, but i'm going to try them again, after he's put to rights with the antibiotics and steroids, i'd rather he was on these to maintain his skin health rather than the steroids, cos i don't like what they're doing to him....he stands for several long minutes outside, trying to pee in the cold, with only a little bit coming out...then comes in and piddles the floor and he looks so shamefaced i could really cry, he just doesn't understand what's happening to him.. Between 7.30 & 8pm tonight, i'd to let him out 3 times, and mop the laminate and scrub the carpet twice...i can't confine him to the kitchen, he's there all night... having said that, he's now sleeping at my feet, he must be exhausted too, poor love

Lilac, Poundland sell puppy training mats @ 4 for a £1.00 (surprise, surprise at the price). I bought a pack for when I brought Kezie home. Popped one in the carrier just in case she was caught short on her long journey home. Re the Piriton. The reason I've been googling it again is to find something to help Kezie. I know cat flu is very different to an allergy but I could tell that she was suffering so badly from the irritation in her throat/nasal passage & felt an antihistamine could help - & it has
