Hey, just found this forum and think it is awesome. My wife and I have used a few different cheap generic throw away e-cigs and they have worked with varying degrees of success. I am now looking to purchase a quality e-cig to smoke full time and do away with the regular cigarettes for good! I've been searching the forum and just wondered what you guys think would be the best starter kit for me. I would like to refill my own juice rather than buying the prefilled cartridges in order to save money, just wondering what you guys recommend, it looked as though the 510 was quite popular. Please forgive me, as I have had a little trouble understanding some of the terminology used here, hopefully as I get into this more I will understand better! Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Best deal I know of is for the best starter kit is here...Reliable company who are good in customer relations/advice. The Riva, linked below, has excellent battery life, essential for lots of reasons. Riva is also known as Tornado/Ego, its all the same, just different branding. www.liberty-flights.co.uk/product.asp?id=78 Enter ECR69 into 'enter promotion code' box to get 15% off. You also need some E-liquid, it's best to get say 3 flavours to try, as they are all different and tastes are subjective. Don't order big bottles as you may not like it. Most new users want tobacco types, Loads to choose from. Always best to start off with 18MG strength. Then if it's not strong enough, move up to 24, if its too weak, move down a bit. 18MG is about the middle ground and suits most ex-smokers. This info I've passed onto at least 12 new users, and they're all ex-smokers, and all are happy with 18MG strength. Small tobaccos link is here... www.liberty-flights.co.uk/product.asp?id=73 It's also wise to get a drip tip, cheap and do the job great when carts give ya grief...order 2 different types to try, one delrin and one aluminium. Drip tip list here... www.liberty-flights.co.uk/product.asp?id=76 That's enough for a starter set, with postage and discount comes to £49.18. Thats what i would buy if I were starting out.

I can't improve on Bucko's advice, the Riva is very popular amongst newbies and oldies alike, partly because its "sister/clone", the Tornado, was recently offered at half-price by a site that was closing down, so lots of peeps got to try it (not me though). The Riva has good battery life and there have been few if any reports of DOA (dead on arrival) or DLL (doesn't last long) The only objection you and your wife may have is that the Riva is much bigger than, and doesn't look anything like, a cigarette. If that objection is not overcome-able we can find some smaller ones for you, but the batteries won't last as long and they may not be as reliable. 18mg was the highest strength available when I started, so even hardened Golden Virginia chain-smokers like me had to make do with that strength of nicotine - and we DID Any more questions or explanations required - please do not hesitate! scylla

Hi Maturk, Welcome to the forum You are right, this forum is awesome thanks to Chrissie, her loyal band of moderators and of course a helpful bunch of members. Bucky and Scylla have given sound advice and I can thoroughly recomend the Riva/Tornado. If you go for the smaller 510 or 901 that look more like a cigarette you may eventually get fed up charging batteries and look for a better model anyway as I did. The model that Bucky recommends is excellent and a charged battery will last me two days as I am a very light vaper. It will last most vapers a full day which is excellent whereas for the 510 you will need to have probably three charged batteries if you were going out for the day. Also would recommend that you buy spare attys as these can be a bit of a weak link and can die on short notice. Don't be afraid to ask plenty of questions as everyone on the forum will help you find the answers. Happy vaping. Ken.

Great to have a contribution from a "fairly newbie, but with experience" vaper, Ken And it's good advice about atties but I didn't mention it because at least with Riva/Tornado you get 2, so Bucko's inclusive price wouldn't have to be exceeded to have a decent starting outfit scylla

I am now on day 80. I first started with a 510, and found the transition from being a tobacco smoker for 50 years to becoming a vaper extremely easy. I also am a person who said that I would never stop smoking. I will leave anything further to the more experienced members. Ken.

thank you so much for all the feedback! We just had a couple more questions, first off I was searching the Liberty site and wondering what the difference was between the Riva 510 and the Nomad 905 and if there were any advantages to either. Also we found a Tornado starter kit on the totally wicked website slightly cheaper, just wondering if anyone had dealt with them and if they are reliable. We really appreciate the info everyone has given us. Thanks!

Ah, I see TW are doing Tornado kits in red and pink at £34-99. Is that the deal you seen? That's a decent deal alright, but don't fancy those colours mind Don't get the £24-99 Tornado kits, there's only one atomiser, you need the 2 for sure. I'd still go for the Riva. for an extra £1-£2 more, the Riva has a fast charger which does the job in say 2 hours...the charger which comes with the tornados take 6 hours to charge. Also, the Riva comes with 2 different atomisers, one regular, and one is Low resistance. Another bonus that. Pg is liquid with a propylene glycol base, probably the most widely used. VG is vegetable glycerin base, supposed to produce more vapour (but clogs the atomisers at times due to its thickness) Edit the nomad 905...not in the same league as Riva/tornado/Ego too many reasons to list why. They're not rubbish. But not great either.

510/901 is the atomiser type. There's dozens of atomisers, these are probably the 2 most commonly used. Of the 2, the 510 is probably the most popular.
510 has bigger throat hit 901 more flavour. Allegedly.
It's personal taste, me, I love the 510, not so much the 901.

Hello and welcome from me too maturk! The 'draw' on the two atomisers is slightly different, some folk prefer one or the other, whilst some are quite happy with either. The 901 has a more gentle/softer throat hit I find. Not much else I can add the great advice the lovely peeps here have given you.
