Anyone notice that mozzies, midges and other bitey things seem to be out of control this year? Been down to the reservoir the past few evenings with the dogs and have bites all over, most annoying are on my face, behind my ears and in my belly button? WTF? Having to resist the urge to scratch the ones on my face and end up looking like I have some weird disease

I have noticed this bigtime, when doing the lawn and the likes, also while in Devon i got bitten much more than usual, I think it has lots to do with the wet weather, and possibly lots of standing water left over, breeding ground for the little sods, on top of this i reckon the VG we vape makes us taste sweeter ;-)
I got myself one of those bit and sting sticks from Boots, just rub it on and it removes the itching almost instantly, very good purchase if you ask me.

Someone was talking about an increase in the flea population on another thread. I guess this weather is suiting the bitey things

They inhabit wet ground so you get lots near water ponds & lakes, the poor summer has made matters worse as a lot of the ground is sodden. I go fly fishing & they drive me mad sometimes in the evening. Avon Skin so soft is quite a good midge repellent.

I don't want to freak anyone out here, but bare in mind the possibility of........I don't even want to say it.......bed bugs. I went through it about 4 years ago. Had a few "bites" on my arm and put it down to midges/mozzies as it was in the summer. But after the initial 3-4 bites, more popped up and on my missus too. After about a week we found one strolling along the duvet. I looked on the internet for bugs in the home and it came up. Pulled the bed out and checked it over. Lucky I found where they were. Wasn't many - maybe 10-15 of the buggers. Got shot of the bed and thankfully they didn't return. The only thing I could put it down to was a B&B we stayed at whilst on a weekend away to Alton Towers.....we thought the place was a little grotty at the time, but paid peanuts so. Just keep an eye on the bites. If you have 2-3 in the same place, defo check it out. Sorry if it causes any paranoia or freaking out

Thanks for that Benny, totally freaked out lol....no seriously thanks for sharing. However I'm sure in this instance the bites are from when I went to the reservoir, it was at sunset and I could actually feel myself being bitten at the time and see swarms of various bitey things all around me

The other thing to bear in mind Ellen is that in past summers your walk would probably have been in a cloud of cigarette smoke, which probably kept some of the biteys away

The jury is out on B100 & B12 supplements for warding off bitey things Ellen . . . but I've taken them for the first time ever this year and haven't had a fraction of the bites I'd normally get.

Its true that cigarette smoke is supposed to repel them, I still got bitten quite a bit even with stinky smoke, think I must attract the bloody things. Thanks Perp, I had forgotten about the vitamin B, I still have some around the house, will try taking some

I do think certain people are more attractive to bitey things than others. On the odd occassion when our cat has brought fleas in I get my legs covered in quite nasty bites and the rest of the family are unaffected

me too Oneday, I've always been bitten more than anyone else I've been with even abroad by sandflies and spiders in Thailand *shiver* and I have very bad reactions to them, they swell up badly Someone suggested it may be because I have a rare blood type...but I don't know cos I don't know my blood type

Hubby found hundreds of flying ants in our back garden yesterday and ended up hosing them down, they were everywhere. Ewwwww.
