2 weeks ticked off in Rhodes, lovely island, recommend it to anyone, feeling sort of refreshed, why only sort of? Firstly, vaping (for me) in the heat was not good, not good at all, I hate to say this but I ended up reverting to a handful of analogues because I wasn't able to enjoy vaping, good news is that if you are ever tempted to go back don't, they taste awful and I could only smoke 1/4 of a cig and then chuck it. Good news for my brain because it now knows that it will never go back. Secondly, whilst we were out there I got a call from the lady looking after my cats, my favourite cat had stopped eating and was lethargic, so told her to ask my next door neighbour to run him to the vets, few hours later it appeared that he had contracted something and his immune system was systomatically destroying all his red blood cells, his count was so low that he was borderline blood transfusion. Looked at getting flights back and it was impossible (and expensive) so asked to vets to hang on to him till last Saturday. Being a lucky chappy I have a good friend who runs a cat sanctuary and she (even though he was contagious) too him in and gave him is own room, he even had DVD's playing on loop so he didn't get bored, how great is that????? He was dropped off this morning and he is very thin, still wopbbly on his pins and we have been to the vet who is sort of happy with progress. But - the cat worries didn't stop there Got another call from the lady looking after the cats to say that Simba (one of the Bengals) had come in with a sore toe and it looked bad, so the lady that had our other cat came in to look and said it needed amputating so off to the vets again. When I phoned the vets from the airport the lady said "bet you won't go away for two weeks next time". So - on my return I have one cat in one room in a huge cage, if you know what Bengals are like they DO NOT like being caged and are very noisy about telling you, he has destroyed the cage, his cat litter is everywhere and he is screaming blue murder. He has a head collar on so that has really pissed him off even more. In the other room I have a cat under quarantine conditions, anyone going in or coming out has to sanitise their hands and the door is to be kept closed at all times. I was going off for another holiday on Sunday but we are now delaying that until the next school break. Cost of the cats (both) was £800 so it's been a rather expensive end to the holiday But - I'm back, we all had fun and spent far too long and our backsides soaking up some rays

Blimey Tim, what a horrible mess so sorry to hear about your cats and hope they make a full recovery. Vet bills are crazy aren't they, might be an idea to get some insurance. Sorry to hear vaping didn't work so well for you out there, was it because the liquids got hot? Or did you still not want to vape inside in air conditioned places? Hopefully you can get back to a bit of normality soon. It's nice to see you back anyway

O good grief Tim . . . not the most relaxing end to a holiday you could have. On the positive side, both kitty's are with you still, paws crossed they both make a very speedy, full recovery. The few ciggies you had are neither here nor there in the scheme of things, at least there's some lovely wet stuff here, so you'll be able to enjoy your vaping to the max again.

Welcome back Tim, and ditto the above comments. Hope the cats make a swift and full recovery. You'll have masses of thread-catching-up to do now, and loads of newbies to say Hi to

Talk about coming down to earth with a bang Tim. Your cats are in good hands now, so hopefully the storm will be over very soon and you can relax again.

Hi Tim,
Sorry to hear about your cats, hope all turns out well.
Your story just hit a nerve with me as I'm the official 'cat sitter' for my youngest son when he goes off with his girlfriend for holidays, short breaks etc. I dread the call. He has 3 cats, one is quite old now and good as gold, but the youngest one is evil (in a nice way!) and is always trying to wind the other two up.
One morning I called round to check on them and feed them, and smelt gas in the house. One of them (and I'm guessing which one) had jumped up on the cooker, pulled off a teacloth which had obviously caught the knob on one of the rings and turned the gas on.
I now usually just stay there to keep an eye on them. The responsibilty is draining. I didn't feel this stressed when I first became a parent, so to all 'pet sitters' out there, it's not easy is it?
Again, I hope all turns out well, they're family aren't they?
