Blizzard-like snow here again from about 10.30 am -can't see out of my windows again. The gritters did the pavement on the other side but only got half way and ran out of grit!!!! So, they then trundled off in slow wagon holding all the traffic up!! It really is chucking it down again now, loads of it!! My daughter did manage to get to her 'do' last night - an hour late though. Only 12 out of 30 people managed to attend. She said they had a good time. Quite likely - had more food and booze all to themselves!! More and more coming down now -very heavy - in an oblique/almost straight across direction. Well, I have enough food etc to last about four days - going to make a neck-of-lamb stew in my slow cooker now. Have plenty of tins in reserve. Back later. MM

There was a thin layer of snow on the garden this morning and a forlorn woodpigeon looking for scraps - so I heaved a big ladle of birdseed out of the window, but the next time I looked out the snow was flurrying down and the garden several inches deep in it. Poor birdies scylla

We have a town garage filled with a sand/salt mix and I do mean filled, mountains of it, for sanding the roads. They use dump trucks with a spraying attachment, that travel at about 20 or 30 miles per hour, spraying the sand on the roads. The same trucks are also equipped with a heavy duty plow on the front for moving the heavier snow off of the roads.
It has become a very efficient operation, since lots of snow is common around here.
Did I mention that I hate snow ? lol.

We ran out of salt/grit mix last year - scandal from the opposition parties Bet we will again even tho they've tried to stock up. Our back garden this afternoon. The little houses behind are on land that used to be part of our garden but they sold it off. scylla

You have a few inches of snow there, Scylla. It looks like the heavy wet kind that we get here, that clings to the trees and everything else. You have a very nice yard (garden).

Ken, that's cheating, snow on mountain tops doesn't count , unless you are living on the mountain top !! LOL.

I know what a yard is *sniff* ... just like I know what a plow is *sniff sniff* I know these things partly because I spend a lot of virtual time in New York, Houston, etc, with your animal rescue squads on Animal Planet TV And partly because I adore Raymond Chandler (I wish he'd resurrect himself and write some more!). Early signs were that it was already melting when I took the photo, nothing left on my windowsill. scylla

Crikey Kenny! Is that today? I should think Cretans are very unused to any really cold weather.

Perpy,we get snow every year. This was last Saturday night but it was gone next morning lol. The mountains however have snow from December until end of March even though the coastal temperatures can be 20c plus.
I do live nearly at the top of a mountain Jerry bye the way lol.

This is the view we have from our balcony. The snow of course is above us on the mountain tops.

Crikey Kenny! Is that today? I should think Cretans are very unused to any really cold weather. The Cretans love snow and rain as it helps to fatten the olives before harvesting and also provides much needed water for the island. We don't get extremes of winter here but a lot of wind chill with the gales especially in February.

Fabulous view Kenny, my perceptions of warmer climes are changing quite drastically with the benefit of a spot of insider knowledge.

We had hailstones last night rather than snow. Hardly any of it has melted so it's been like walking on very slippery gravel. The lane I live down is unadopted so never gets gritted by the council & what makes matters worse is at the start of the lane it's a very steep drop down to the main road Temperature is plummeting here at the moment - thank goodness for my lovely log burner. It heats up this old cottage far better than the gas central heating. Jerry, not got any snowy pics of my garden (yard ) this year but here's one from a couple of years ago And snowy view from bedroom window : -
