I use a "piece" of wick, not a "strand" as per your definition Kuro (ie a piece cut from a coil of wick and not unbraided). I currently have a piece of 3mm wick in mine. It is quite loosley braided so the strands tend to unwind a bit in the bottom of the atty and soak up the juice beautifully

Kuro, how thick is the wick that you're using when it's complete? before you de-strand it. I use a 2mm thick by 4-5cm long wick with an extra 2mm 1-1.5cm long piece added where the coil is wound that acts as a buffer. I use 5cm of .2 wire which will give me about 6 turns and a 1.8-2ohm coil. Out of habit I use nr wire for the connections but that is totally unnecessary

Kuro, how thick is the wick that you're using when it's complete? before you de-strand it. Well, I've got a bit 1mm and a bit of 3mm. To make a coil, I've been using 1 length of 3mm wick plus 1 strand detached from the 1mm wick which I cut slightly longer then the length of 3mm so I can double it back on itself at the point where I wind the coil. I reckon I'll get some 2mm wick and try to follow your method to the letter. In the meantime, since I already have some 3mm, I'll try oneday's method. (Oneday: You don't add any wick to the point where the coil is wrapped? You just use one length of 3mm wick, plain and simple?)

I was in the middle of recoiling whilst this thread was updating, I used a long piece of 1mm wick and a buffer of 2mm with 5 wraps of .2 Kanthal. Positioned the air hole as per instructions, getting a lot more vapour on this coil and great consistent hits, but seem to be lacking on the flavour a little ???. My first coil was 2 short pieces of 2mm wick, didn't hold as many drops, or produce as much vapour but the flavour was more intense... Not worried as these things are so easy to coil up it's easy to play around with different set ups

Ellen I think the variance between vapour, hit and taste is more down to the air hole than the wick if what I've read elsewhere is correct

Thanks Oneday, I will try different air hole positions as well then. I don't think that's stingy Kuro, I lost the filler screw of my RTA tonight because I was trying to save 1ml of one of my favourite juices

They're quite robust are clockworks RDA's. Due to my wicking and fitting the wick skills being on a par with Shrek's fine lace sewing skills mine has taken a few trips around the room and is still as good as new.

Sounds like we all have slightly different methods - but in a sense that is the beauty of the RDA, so easy to try different approaches and see what you like. Personally I just use 3mm wick and I find that my ancient UKV group buy stuff gives the best results - I've tried various other wicks, including the GG stuff that works great in the Penelope, but I just don't find it works so well in the RDA. I am a bit mystified by the 20 drops to prime the wick - I just stick some juice in and vape away. 20 drops is the recommended maximum dosage as far as I was aware?

So the clockworks and penelope are the golden girls, obviously. But how does a Genesis style rebuildable compare? Since I'm so poor and vapour hut does a clone...
