Hey again all I am on day 4 of vaping and no ciggy's and still in a constant state of amazement waiting to need a fag and it just isn't happening! this might sound silly but.......I went to the mall today and felt brave and went over to a bench and thought...I am going to vape here....I am allowed.........then chickened out and didn't do it because.......I felt self concious, which is fine I am sure in a few weeks when I get used to it that will go, but also I thought if someone questions me or isn't happy that I am doing it........how do I explain myself.............have people on this site experienced that and how have you responded? I am completely happy telling people about it who are interested to perhaps turn them on to it, but not sure how to deal with any annoyed people if that makes sense?

You dont have to explain yourself, If they are curious. answer the questions, If they are annoyed then respect them by stopping but point out that what you are doing isnt illegal, move on, thats what I would do. No point getting arsey with them i suppose.

Thankfully I havent experienced it.. yet, but I think while vaping is still relatively young, the general public would only be curious and the more 'professional' bodies might be a little authoritative in their opinions, but if I wasnt sure I would ask first to be honest. but thats the civil side of me, I always respected the smoking ban too.

I doubt I would vape inside anywhere as I'm so used to going outside for a "smoke". If I saw someone else vaping inside, then chances are I would join them lol! I used to smoke cigs on train platforms all the time. Used to walk up to a quiet part of the platform though. Never thought it was an issue.
I don't think I should vape "anywhere" because it's not illegal. I can wait, or go outside. Not a problem for me.

I've vaped under a no smoking sign in the bus station and no one said anything, but I got some strange looks!

If there's anyone to ask - like a barman for instance - I ask - "Do you have a policy on electronic cigarettes". If not, I vape, but careful not to blow it in anyone's face and not near kids. So far I've not been challenged at all (except by one person who thought it was a cigarette and was then very apologetic) and the bar people have all said fine, do it.

I'm generally discreet, but people do stare if they notice, then I'm a little more open to show I am doing nothing wrong/not being sneakey, I'll chew on it or tap it on my teeth like a pen, they soon lose interest when there's no smell. Cab drivers in foreign countries worry me, they are more interested in watching you in the rear view than watching the road

I was happily vaping in costas (with permission) the other week when a couple came and sat at the table next to me and questioned whether I should be doing that. He went on to say he was asthmatic and it could affect him, my response was "I have permission and its not illegal" After a few minutes he moved saying he couldn't breath properly with me vaping. my thoughts were I was sat there first, he could have sat elsewhere but wanted to be a wally and try to make an issue out of it. I just turned my back and carried on, never seen someone act in that way before. and with regards to him being asthmatic I understand some of the ingredients we use , are in inhalers anyway.

I haven't had a problem as yet so I am not sure what I will do when I am confronted. Will have to wait and see.

Maybe - without being arsey - you could ask Mr asthmatic whether he moves away from the kettle when it's boiling?

This hasn't happened to me yet, but I tend to be non-confrontational. I think if someone wanted me to stop I would, because one of the benefits of vaping over smoking (for me) is not having the urgrncy of need that I did with tobacco.

I have never been asked to stop vaping, if someone shows an interest (positive or negative) I just say the "smoke" is a harmless vapour with no tobacco in it and if they ask more I say they use the same liquid in nebulisers for Asthma sufferers.

The worst I got when vaping twice in one day was people saying 'hope you quit smoking soon!!!' Argh! Am grump central right now so don't take prisoners ...or A+E telling me (one snooty sister when I'd been there about 4 hours) that I couldn't vape for 101 reasons that weren't true - argh!!!. Fact was it was NHS policy not to allow vaping on the premises (don't think I realised that then) and like they hadn't told me (Despite being in regular email contact with the smoking cessation officer) I vape on first buses all the time - though wouldn't dare on a stagecoach LOL Jane
