Had my first visit to the dentist today! This is big news as I haven't been for several years and one of the reasons for this was I was always getting the "smoking is bad for your teeth" lecture. As if it wasn't obvious........
So, had my first appointment with the dentist and told her I used to smoke but don't anymore and she said, ok let's get rid of the evidence and ten minutes later, I have WHITE teeth!
I didn't realise how un-white they had been so that's me happy today and very smilie!

Hi Gillian, Well done. I've also not been for years, and that's because I'm bloody scared of them and THAT drill Luckily I've had no pain, even from fillings that have long gone, but I guess I won't be able to put it off much longer

I did say one of the reason for not going! The other reason is a full blown dental phobia but unfortunately I have a rather yucky wisdom tooth that really needs pulled and I did break a tooth last Christmas on a rather tasty thorntons toffee!
I also have a phobia about flying so might borrow one of my flying diazepan for when I get my tooth pulled next month but thats another story......

Gillian if you ask your dentist they will sedate you with diazepan i have to whip over to the pharmacist with a prescription for the same then return to the dentist to have them verify my taking them before they do anything

Well done gillian.... no dentist for me for the last 4 years - frightens the bejesus out of me Though would love to go and get them cleaned properly in the hope my gums try to make a comeback now that I am not suffocating them with fag smoke. The cost is just ridiculous though

the cost is staggering, I used to be sedated at the dentists a few years ago............but I am just about able to go now..........I will be panicking all next week, but my teeth have REALLY suffered due to smoking so I need to have a deep clean with local anesthetics yuk.........the worst thing is they do half of your mouth at a time so i get half done next week and then the other half the following week, I would rather they did the whole thing in one go and got it over with.........even if I couldn't speak/eat/vape for the day!!!!

The local anaesthetic is to prevent bleeding during the deep clean, not for your comfort Haven't heard of splitting the oral hygiene across two sessions before.

If they put the local in with injections into the gum ask them for some numbing cream first as the injections are the most painful. Actually made me cry and I never cry in public!

Good dentists should be using the numbing gel stuff anyway. I had a phobia of the dentist for years after having a tooth filled without anaesthetic when I was 8. I eventually found a dentist up in Kilmarnock in Scotland of all places that dealt with phobias. He went out of his way to make sure I never suffered ANY pain, if I did he told me to put my hand up and he'd stop. He actually gave me more anaesthetic than he was supposed to one day, but if you ask me that's better than feeling pain. He also gave me gas and air (stuff they give to pregnant women) which also helps with pain and nerves.
I still don't like going though.

Not wanting to get in trouble but if you want your teeth whitening, mention Colgate Professional White to your dentist.
Reasons are,its quick and a LOT cheaper than Laser treatment, you can use it at home after the initial consultation and a pack lasts quite a long time.Use it on wed to fri and you got pearly whites on Saturday!
