If you dont have it defragged on a regular basis, it will almost certainly help....
Will take a couple of hours minimum if you havent done it before, so instead of shutting down for the night, just defrag and it`ll go into sleep mode overnight afterwards.
Restart in the morning and you`ll likely find it a lot quicker then

it's always best to run defrag after disk cleanup, as the disk cleanup can cause fragmentation.
I would also advise to look in add/remove programs or programs & features on the control panel (which ever it is on vista), and hunt down any search bars or tool bars, and remove them, as they have a nasty habit of slowing things down.

Always happy to help, it would be a shame for me to sit here with all my IT knowledgeable and not share, when everyone has been so good at sharing when it comes to vaping

You may want to check how full your Hard Drive is, if doing a disk cleanup sorted it then pretty much all disk cleanup is doing is removing temp files and other crap from your HD therefore freeing up badly needed space. If it is full consider getting a second drive or an external drive to copy some of the stuff on to.

Hi tim, still have 144gig left. well i spoke too soon, as it started up fine once and then it was back to taking ages, so tonight i disconected it from the power, and took off one of the sides, bloody hell was like the black hole of calcutta in there, minging, so cleaned it out, cleaned the fans, removed one completely, the big one on the pcb, gave everything a dust off and put it back together, and it seem's to be ok. Doing another scan now, takes a couple of hours+ though How, do you fit another drive, where does it go? What size and roughly what cost? Lol i'm a bit of a numpty with this stuff, have seen drives and stuff cos ebuyer send us e-mails but i don't know what would fit what or what to do with it

If you have 144gb of free space then you don't need another hdd.
I use a vacum cleaner to clean out the dust.
