PTFE plumbers tape will certainly insulate and may even resist the temperature but will prevent the coil from coming into contact with the juice.. Macca, from what I've seen it your picture above, you haven't wound the coil very tightly around the silica tube, is that right? It is wound as tight as it will go without deforming the tube..Similar setup here on my vertigo: Look at the vape:

Brilliant Macca . . . whoever thought of this wick tube gem in the first place, deserves an award of some sort.

OK, sorted my problem out where it didn't taste as good as some of you are talking about. When I went to refill it, I noticed when I took the screw out, that a load of bubbles came up from the wick, so working out that it wasn't getting enough air in to keep up with the wicking, I gently slid a toothpick down the centre of the wick. All problems gone! Tasting brilliant now. I fully expect to use even more juice than I have done to date in it....... which seemed like alot I wouldn't have minded a spare filling screw tbh, I'm being very careful, but I know what I'm like

Good innit Womble . . . I've gone through even more wodges of juice today with this widget! Glad you've got yours sorted . . . you could always use a tooth pick/cocktail stick or some such if you did happen to lose the screw, though I've been filling mine down the mesh wick with a needle, as someone ( Sej I think ) suggested earlier in the thread.

I'd read that before about genisis attys, so I tried it but it didn't work, kept filling up the tube, but now it works, another sign of a obstruction in the tube I suppose.... should have thought of that earlier Wow, I swear I've gone through 1ml in the last 20 minutes

The silica wick provides no strength at all..It's just slid over on the outside of the mesh.. You still need an air hole in the middle of the mesh wick to replace air in the tank..I normally cut the bottom end off at an angle so that the wick does not bottom out completely..The silica wicking tube just goes on the area which emerges from the hole.. Yeah, I fully understand the principle I was just wondering whether or not you needed to wrap the mesh looser because you wouldn't need to wrap the coils as tight as you would normally wrap them on bare mesh and maybe a looser wrap would wick better? I'll start experimenting when I get round to nabbing some tubing.

I'll start experimenting when I get round to nabbing some tubing. Make the mesh as you would normally do. You do need the body of the mesh to do the heavy lifting. You may have to roll the SS mesh slightly tighter to insert the silica wicking tube on it at the top thirds. Just make sure your SS mesh wick has a hole through and through the center. This also increases the diameter of the top thirds where the coil would go so you may end up getting one coil less. Just wrap the coil as normal. It is still backed by SS mesh, so you can tighten it all you like. The silica wick is slippery and you can easily tell when you have got it just right. If you try to overtighten, instead of digging in, the coil starts to slide off.

I'm really liking my maximus now, after a night of heavy vaping, but I'm really worried about that poly tank, some stress lines are getting bigger already. If you look closely at the tank, you can see it bulges at either end where it fits onto the metal, it must have been put on with a very tight fit. Understandable, as it has no o-rings, I'm sure someone will come up with a solution soon, but it's a serious design fault IMO.

One coil less is no issue, just use a higher res wire to replace it, but if the mesh still needs to be as rigid as it would be if the silicon wasn't used the my question is answered. Cheers macca. I'll dismantle some cartos later and use the tubes from them.
