Peter, I'm not disagreeing mate. The only room I smoked in was my bedroom and unfortunately it still smells. I've got a friend doing the painting next week. Might freshen it up.

I've never used the term myself, as it just sounds a bit 'playground' to me, as do the other terms like analogues etc, and I will continue to call them fags as I always have done. Never liked 'cigs' either, just don't like the way the word sounds.
I still like the smell of a burning fag, but have always hated the after smell, either on my clothes, fingers or other people.
That was all a superfluous preamble to me expressing my incredulity that anybody can possibly find a colloquial term for a fag offensive, but clearly some people are more sensitive than I am.

i too don't like the the term 'stinkies', i just don't care for the term (even tho i realise that they do actually stink, particularly afterwards). it certainly feels like more demonising of smokers but we're all grown up enough to choose whether to smoke or not. we've just chosen to vape instead so it stinks much less. ps stinkies = farts in my childish world

I'm not sure if I've ever used the term stinkies. If I did, it was probably with relief that I've managed to stop them and they do stink. I wouldn't hesitate to use it on someone I know either. "Oh, still on the stinkies then Dave " etc I don't feel better than that person, I feel personal overriding relief I've found something that worked for me.

Here's one to throw in to the mix, get ready for controversy here on in... My company has just banned the use of vaping at work and has suggested that I go outside and stand in a smoking area instead. While I have no issue with doing this apart from my own comfort at vaping indoors up until now (I am after all an Ex-smoker)... Could I fight this decision on the grounds that they have a duty of care over my safety as I would be in an unsafe environment inhaling "passive smoke" while using an e-cig that I switched to, to avoid tar, carbon monoxide, and all those other 2,000 other naughty chemicals? Bloody stinky those things edit, removed typos.

Firin I'd think you have zero chance, at least until a few passive smoking group action cases have gone through the courts. And now the company have set a no-vaping policy you will face disciplinary action if you do vape

That really is a shame that your company have done that FB, but as Oneday says you would face disciplinary action if you vaped indoors. At the same time, making you go to the smoking shelter and inhale passive smoke isn't acceptable either, the smoking ban was introduced partly to protect workers from passive smoke

The danger with that argument Ellen is that the company agree that passive smoking is bad and ban all smoking and vaping on the premises

It's strange, when I first stated there was nothing on our intranet (where we keep the current policies) about e-cigs. Then within two months of me vaping in the office, an email comes out banning vaping. I work for a company that employs 12,000 people and still (after the email) the intranet site doesn't refer to e-cigs in any way. I've heard of other sites where people have used e-cigs only to have an email come out banning them shortly after. My theory is the company are banning them in sites if they receive complaints. Annoying though this is it kind of explains why there isn't an official announcement company wide. It's also annoying as it covers use within company cars Mind you, proving that someone's been vaping in a car/van would take the entire cast of CSI

It is obviously much easier to prove that someone has been smoking than vaping, but if you believe someone has made a complaint against you far vaping they could equally tell if they saw you doing it
