The term stinkies.

I have to come in here. I really hate the term stinkies. We were all smokers at once you know (and I still am to a point). This is almost as bad as non-smokers making smokers feel dirty. Now it's people that have switched to e-cigs? I know for a fact almost everyone here would be smoking if it wasn't for e-cigs.

I'm sorry, but I just hate that term. As were all still smokers in a way (granted, nicotine junkies if you will, but still). I will still defend smokers rights. I have nothing against smoking. I prefer vaping now, but I will never look down on anyone who still smokes or put them down. And let me tell you when it comes to defending e-cigs it's not going to be non-smokers who will help us. It's going to be the smokers. It should work both ways.

Alright, I'm gonna shut up now, but honestly. This upsets me. It sounds so dirty.

I don't like the term either, but only because I think it sounds a bit daft and dare I say childish when someone says it?

Mind you, saying that, I can see how the term came about. It does stink and sometimes I almost can't stand it. Mr Boo still smokes, and I find im opening the windows of the rooms he smokes in more often to clear it, and im emptying the ashtray almost as soon as he's used it.

I don't think I've ever used that term,I usually say "been off the ciggies",even though it does smell unpleasant,we all smelled that way,I'am still getting the smell out of my room and washing all my clothes out,the last smoker at work is making an effort now,although hes trying to go cold turkey, don't think I ever found it offending when people said stinkies though while I was still doing both,because I think in my mind I knew it did.

As far as I know the term is used to describe cigarettes not the people who smoke them, and no one can deny that they do smell bad. Even as a 35-40 a dayer I hated the smell of them.

I often use the term "stinkies".

Its not so much having a go at smokers, because as you say, we all smoked!

But I cant stand the smell of cigarettes. My GF has just stopped smoking and even she has started to say, they do smell.

I've only been visiting this forum for a few weeks, but I'm pretty certain I have NEVER seen this term used to describe people- only cigarettes- which DO stink, no matter how freedom loving you are.

Sorry, but taking offence at this term seem over-sensitive to me.

I don't particularly care for the term analogues, cigarettes/ciggys/fags . . . what I called them when I was using them, does for me.

But, we're all different . . . the live and let live attitude I take personally.

ewol, I hadn't really thought about it, but you have a point, I have no problem with smokers and would never want someone to feel bad for smoking, it's a horribly addictive thing, I had a chat with my dentist yesterday who had just been on a course about smoking and he explained that tobacco companies have over time developed the perfect way to make the cigarette the most addictive concoction it can possibly be, all smokers and most of us on this site have been effectively lured in by legalised drug pushers and many of us are and know people that are paying for that with their lifes and still unable to quit, the only people I dislike are the tobacco companies for profiting from people's illness and death, when my Grandma was dying from lung cancer in hospital (all my grandparents have died from lung cancer) myself and my family were popping in and out of the hospital for fags......and when she came home to die she smoked up until she couldn't physically hold a fag anymore....that's insanity! sorry don't know where that rant came from......but I agree I don't want to be one of those non smokers who make smokers feel rubbish!

I had started calling them stinkies btw since vaping because they do bloody stink now I have given up! I don't hate the smell I just have never been able to smell it before!

I'm guilty of using the term "stinkie" so I'm sorry if I've caused any offence to anyone because that has never been my intention. I think most vapers use the word more as a tongue in cheek, jokey alternative word for a cigarette rather than to belittle or upset smokers. Cigarettes do smell and so do smokers, as I did when I smoked cigarettes but when you're a smoker you don't really notice the smell, do you? Now that I vape instead of smoking, I do notice the smell and I don't find it very pleasant but in no way do I look down on smokers, or think I'm better than them, or think that they are dirty. That would just be so wrong, especially as if I hadn't started vaping, I would still be a smoker.

As others have said, the term refers to cigarettes and not people.

Some people call them nasties, which doesn't make the person using them nasty. Or fags, which doesn't make the person using them gay.

Cigarettes have always had derogatory nicknames, including coffin nails and death sticks. Stinkies is just another on the list.

Yes, but by calling them stinkies, you're making the smoker feel dirty. Even if indirectly. Which was the point I was trying to putting across. Yes, they stink. Yes, they cause pain and suffering. It doesn't mean smokers want to hear it.

Still, I hold no ill will against anyone using it. You're free to do as you wish. I just don't like the term, personally.

I just wanted to share my feelings on it. I don't wish to step on anyones toes. Sorry if it's come across that anyway.

Seems that some folk choose to be offended rather easily these days, tis easier to choose to not be offended.

Especially over something as meaningless as a slang term for a cigarette.
