Hi Lobey, I have a fair amount of the lower-end kit too, and I've discovered that VV (at least on a Twist) doesn't give me anything extra than a few different ohm options on an standard eGo bettery already gives me. I'm not interested in LT (hate those plastic caps) or Provari (ugly thing) - and why would I want to pay so much more for higher voltage VV when it doesn't really do anything extra for me? Long lasting and easily replaceable batteries do interest me though, so I'm going the tinkerer route and building my own PVs. I have a tin mod, a box mod, a torch mod and a pipe mod already in the works, none of them are going to cost much and all of them will use easily-available rechargable batteries. If, later on, I fancy giving VV another go, I can use the skills gained on these 3.7V mods to build a 5V VV version, to my own design (well, limited by the materials and tools I have) and for far less money than a LT.
So maybe, as you are a tinkerer too, making your own mods as well as your own juice will help?

I recently went the VV route after about 6 weeks on a basic. I didnt have a real problem with the early Ego I bought, just saw a bargain and went for it. I have found that the VV devices where you can raise or lower the voltage by .1V at a time have increased my enjoyment of vaping considerably. Until I got one of course, I didnt realise that it would make a difference. But now I love the VV battery, it can make such a difference to the flavour as you can virtually "dial out" any burn taste that you are getting. I didnt realise I was getting a burn taste until I went down to about 3.2 or 3.3 volts. It was a revelation to me!!! Made such a difference to my vaping experience. Another advantage is that when you are vaping at that kind of voltage, you get much more time out of your battery. I am using 18650 batteries now, 2200mah and I am getting over two days out of each recharge, instead of having to change the battery twice a day with the Ego. That didnt worry me that much, but for me the real plus was the better taste of the vape.

To Dizzi, Yes, I have this vision of me strolling along the road, vaping away on a 10" silver Personal Electronic Nicotine Inhalation System and behind me I am towing a Skateboard on which is mounted a 120Ah leisure battery. #icon_rofl# Really though, at the moment I can wear my ego on a lanyard and I doubt if anything bigger than the ego twist would fit that. So hopefully, between now and when/if I do go for something with rechargeable seperate batteries, someone will come up with something more practical for my needs.
To Robby, At the moment, I am only using my twist to test "home bru" at varying voltages and really just playing about with them. These brews are not sophisticated enough to warrant anything more than a play about and if they are a bit off, then the adjustments to them will be done at the mixing stage, rather than vaping at a particular voltage. But I would like to think that perhaps in the future, I could get to a stage when taste and satisfaction from my vaping would come down to using a particular voltage for a particular mix. Perhaps after my tastebuds recover from 50 years of cigarette smoking. If they ever do!

f.w.i.w. I still use a mini kit during the day.
Although I don't find the vaping experience "up there" with a bigger battery and carto/clearo, it serves it's purpose.
I think of it as vaping for need, not for pleasure. As it's past it's best, I have just ordered a new complete mini cig kit to replace it with. At home, I mess around with posh flavours and use 1100 batteries that will last days and days as they are only in action 4 hours or so a day.
Vaping on expensive kit (I have none) is not really in my plan. I intend to try and keep things simple....
If running super-kit means getting less life out of top-end batteries (by using them to "max out" the vape), then maybe you should stick with what you have (a system that gets you from A-Z with the least effort) and if you are drawn towards "enthusiast" gear, then do in in addition to what you have maybe - I reckon 2 systems might be the way to go.
Personally, I'd quite like a posh new shiny, but I don't think I'd do it to improve the experience, as I don't really want to up my juice intake.
Just my thoughts....

To Lobey, if you check out this thread there is a very manageable vv battery, good lookin, not heavy, but not a lot of capacity either, and not expensive. I use it if I go out without the car battery lol. allaboute-cigarettes.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=completed&action=display&thread=12164&page=1I really only use the high capacity battery device in the house, so handy not to have to keep charging and changing the batteries all the time.

Think i'm with you on this Lobey--I dithered about buying the twist even- and in the end didn't.Don't get me wrong I would probably think a drag on a super shiney with some exotic mixture in it is fantastic. But it wouldn't be practical and its not why I vape.I only use strong tobacco juice because that is what I use to smoke(not candyfloss,Chocolate or Custard etc etc) The two things that are important to me are--Nicotine hit and a long battery life.

There is no reason why it shouldn`t be pleasurable, and you get a lot more battery life when you are vaping at 3.2 volts, probably about 30% more battery time. I love B and H flavour, and RY4 and these both taste better at the lower voltage. It`s one of those things that if you dont try it you wont know, but it`s personal choice of course. I get all my Dekang from China at about the equivalent of 90p for 10ml so it is incredibly cheap.

I have a Provari but i still use my Rivas for work all day, they work well, give me a nice vape, and keep me fed with nicotine I'll be honest, if it wasn't for a big win on the horses i wouldn't have bought the Provari......... but i'm really glad i did Roughly translated, if you're happy with what you have then don't change a thing

Thanks Robby, but I see they are all sold out!
Still, I will keep it in mind if they come up again.

I agree with a lot of what you say lobey - my taste buds had 50 years of hammering too I just want to add that mechanical mods don't have to be large and unwieldy. This was my first one: This is a more recent aquisition:

Just this morning one of my ego-c batteries began to show signs of an intermittent fault, so perhaps now is the time to start looking at a mechanical battery power system.
But really, as others have said, I am still at the stage where nicotine intake and long battery life is imprtant. Also "ease of use". Whether I am driving the car, walking the dogs, working in my workshop or the garden and in the evening, watching the telly or at the PC, I want my e-cig right there and ready for use. That means it HAS to be on a lanyard around my neck.
I don't mind carrying an extra battery around in my pocket, although I would prefer not to have to stop what I am doing to change over the batteries, so really I will be looking for a mechanical battery that will equal the battery life I get from the Ego-C Joytech 1000mah, that I wear on my lanyard.
However, I do realise that I may have to compromise from what is available unless I am prepared to spend a bit more than perhaps my present vaping needs would appear to justify.

Just to echo what others have said, it's what you feel happy with, what satisfies you, no one else. I use vv mainly to set a voltage ( normally quite lowish, don't feel the need to nuke eliquid to death) that satisfies me, gives me good nic hit/flavour. Longer battery life is a bonus. Being able to tweak the voltage up for dry burning etc is handy as well.
But, what "floats YOUR boat" is all that really matters.

www.vapingthings.com/-PASSTHROUGHS/cat1311953_1388249.aspxget a USB socket in the car and the above, job done, stick in a USB socket whilst on the PC / Laptop etc, job done It'll save the batteries you have, and won't break the bank, a few folk from here have already purchased one, never got round to getting mine, it is on my list for the next order I place

Very true Roger, but if my own are only going to last 4 months or so before starting to play up, then perhaps now is the time to start looking at what "floats other members boats" (an apt term under your circumstances" ) so it is interesting to see what is available in round about the same dimensions to what I have already.
