Day 3 on the e cigs. Last night i had a horrendously sore throat and by the time i went to bed i felt really tight chested and wheezy. Now i have been off work for 3 days and probably have been using my riva a lot more than i smoked TBH. Its a new toy for a start and i wanted to play with it and all the flavours of the eliquid that i got But also i have been wanting to make sure i didn't get to the OMG i need a cigarette stage so have probably just been topping myself up with nicotine all day. This morning I now have a lovely cough and am hacking up loads of crap too. How utterly glamorous ha! Am hoping this is just a side effect of stopping the cigarettes not my new toy that is causing my crap chest and cough. I do have a bit of a cold too which probably is not helping. Since i have started coughing i am not as tight chested and bizarrely even with cold i my sense of smell is certainly improving . Today i must order more liquid too, i have taken my counting of cigarettes left in my pack and the horror of nearly running out of them and put this onto my liquid stash. Now having mild panics that some of the little bottles are half empty. Apart from the crappy chest and obsession with how much liquid i have left its all going really well and actually easier than expected so far.

I think you will find the sore throat and cough is due to not smoking cigarettes, i never had a cough but i had a sore throat, i can understand how you feel about getting low of the liquids, try to keep some in reserve, well done to you

Well done Themer for staying off the stinkies. I have read other posts in the past that people often have a chest clearing session after giving up smoking and of course your cold is not helping. I think as time goes on, you will settle down to "normal use" when vaping and as you say you may have the "new toy" syndrome at the mo. Its important not to get low on your juice stock, perhaps keep a 10ml bottle stashed away somewhere for emergencies only. Most of the vendors can get juice to you the day after ordering. The last thing you want is to out of juice and have to resort to the poison sticks

your lungs have a lot of junk to clear off them, happens to every smoker who stops smoking whether they take up vaping or not, perfectly normal and actually a good thing, it'll pass soon enough

I stopped a couple of weeks ago, was an evening smoker only, but every evening without fail, so still an addict. Usually smoking 8 -10 cigs from 8 -11pm. When the CE5 kit arrived I went mad on it for a couple of days and the back of the roof of my mouth (soft palate) quickly became a bit swollen and soar. I put this down to going crazy on the vapour and moderated myself a bit after the first 2 days. 2 weeks later I'm still vaping more than I smoked, but I'm expecting/hoping it will settle down even more when the initial novelty wears off. I don't think I smoked enough to have the symptoms you've had, but have heard of heavy smokers having your symptoms when they went cold turkey. Same with heavy coffee drinkers as well, dizziness, sickliness and headaches when they quit. stick with it

I got a throat when I started, found it happened less when I vaped pure VG. May be worth a try. It reduced fairly rapidly anyway, gone after a couple of weeks. I vape pure PG now without ill effect.

VG is easily coughed up and in fact causes more phlegm (always hated that word), Its a good thing because it brings up other crap with it (tar etc), and of course it produces more vapour !!
Shame cartos dont like it.

I had the worst cough ever for the first 3 weeks after I stopped smoking, but it soon passed and has completely gone now. Good luck with it, you'll feel so much better in a couple of weeks

You're coughing up loads of crap because your lungs are now beginning to work properly. The chemicals in cigarettes paralyse the cilia (little hairs) in your lungs that help keep them clean, now you're not inhaling those chemicals any more the cilia can do their work - and there's a lot of years worth of crap in there to clean out!
The sore throat might be a quit symptom, or might be because you're not drinking enough (PG is very drying) or might be because you have a cold or you may possibly have a sensitivity to one of the ingredients in your ejuice. If it doesn't go away in a few days (and you have upped your fluid intake), or if it gets worse, switch juice flavours and/or PG/VG ratios and see how it goes.
And don't worry about using the Riva more than you smoked. I was never a heavy smoker (less than a pack a day) and now I nearly always have a PV in my hand. I puff away all day. Most of my juices are 12mg or less, and I keep 20mg around for after eating (the craving is always at its worst then). You'll know if you're overdoing the nic, it makes you feel dizzy and ill for a short while. If you feel fine, you're not overdoing it. If you're constantly craving, as opposed to puffing away cos you like the taste/habit/new toy syndrome, you might need a higher nic content.
Congratulations and well done on reaching day 3 - and starting to get your sense of smell back! Feels great, doesn't it? It's my 8 week anniversary today, and it's brilliant. And we weren't even intending to fully quit!

Well done Themer, you're doing a great job getting off the tobacco! I had a sore throat for a few days, and also bleeding gums. These are both symptoms of vaping as opposed to smoking, and have now both passed. The advice above about trying a VG based juice is excellent - just remember that it is thicker, and will get used up more quickly, so have that 10ml bottle stashed somewhere for emergencies! Like Dizzi, I was only intending to cut out my day-time fags, not give up totally, but after 10 weeks, have only had one roll-up, which tasted horrible. Stick at it, and enjoy all those wonderful new flavours that you can now taste again!!

Hi Themer , i stopped the skinkies because i allready had a sore throat, cough, and headaches. i have had a headache since giving them up but my sore throat has gone completely. i use to get sore throat occasionally so now hopefully that gone. i also coughed up some nasties since quitting them and felt good about it my chest feels much better also, might sound weird or untrue but it really does. i think now i also vape more than i smoked because its a new toy,i really enjoyed a smoke but now i really enjoy a vape stick with it is a wonderfull feeling when you get better

I had a bit of a sore throat when I started vaping but I soon got used to it and it improved. As for the cough strangely I find that I get a chest cough more when I vape then when I smoked but I guess that's my lungs starting to chuck some of the crap out I've been storing in there for years (lovely thought that ) Although it seems to happen right after I vape, not enough to stop me though.
