First off I am a Google nexus fanboy A lot of these cheap tablets around and many with bad reviews. My take on the specs are as follows: Battery life is short, should be double that. 1 ghz A7 quad core cpu - seems OK at first glance? 512mb system memory seems low, 1gb is the norm these days. Says the OS is google Android 4 but not which version, and if it's upgradeable? 800 x 480 screen is fairly low resolution. No sat nav chip IMO not too good, probably OK for a bit of suring and email but you'll need to keep it plugged in or the battery will drain quickly. Sorry

If on a budget would pay the extra for a kindle fire , own a samsung tab 2 10inch myself and love it does everything i need plus more and the screen is a dream to use. Plenty of cashbck deals around at the mo as mine worked out at around £190 which is not much for a 10inch branded tab.

Sorry to say that my daughter managed to persuade herself that buying one of those was a good idea. It wasn't. It's in the bin, and she wants an iPad for Xmas. I'll echo Des, too, and stick a good word in for the Nexus range. Seriously, it's a two horse race- iPad or Nexus. And it's neck and neck at the line.

We have 2 Asus TF101 Transformers with 1 x shared dock (which hardly ever get's used). Great gadgets for media consumption and web surfing, laptops rarely get opened at home now. The TF101 is the original model of the series which should be reflected in the price, with the 10" screen perhaps more suited to use in the home but I see more and more people carrying large pads out and about. I prefer Android to the closed system of Apples IOS as I can't be bothered with all the "jailbreaking" to get full control of something I own. If that's of no concern millions of users cannot be wrong about the Apple products which my mam in her 70's has mastered!, pricey though.

So is a 7" screen really useable, or do you wish you'd bought 10s?

So is a 7" screen really useable, or do you wish you'd bought 10s? That really depends on how you use the tablet. 7" devices are very much more portable than the 10s, but 10s (for me, at least) are more visually appealing - mind, here I'm contrasting the iPad Retina and Mini. I know a number of folks who have gone for the Mini and whose iPad Retinas are now under-used. If you're mostly consuming media, 7" is probably the optimum size. If you're also creating, then maybe 10" is better - it's a hard one.

But, for what the Nexus cost ( I didn't want to spend laptop money ) then it's excellent, although I use mine with a ' dibber ' not having the neatest of pinkies.
