Hello! I'm new to ecigs (and cigs in general!) but I've been lurking around the boards for a wee while trying to get up to speed with all the terminology. Anyway, my mum is looking to quit smoking, and I'd like to help her with a Christmas pressie. She smokes around 5-10 a day of Embassy No.1. I'm just looking for something simple because I know she wouldn't appreciate anything too fiddly. I was thinking about getting her the VE Riva 1100 Deluxe Kit, as it was rec'd on another thread and seems like a good starter kit, or maybe the eXhale CE5 Starter Kit. Are there any big differences between them? Would you rec one over the other? Also, where would you recommend buying e-liquid from? And what strength would you say is most suitable (was thinking low-mid)? I'm worried that it might all be a bit too advanced. Would it be a better idea to let her try a disposable first before leaping in and buying the whole shebang? Or is the kit fine as it is and I should stop worrying? (I tend to do that ) Thank you!

hey welcome to the forums, yea both kits are both good, the batteries are larger than the smaller cig lookalike ones, but thats because the battery life is much higher. The smaller batteries will keep running out, I used to ujse em 3 or so years ago and aside from that, the atomiser would overheat too quickly and i used old cartidges that wouldnt last long when refilling, so the whole thing didnt work too great back then lol. Nowadays u can still get by using the cig-a-like batteries (if u dont mind recharging them often or having like half a dozen at hand all charged), main thing will b decent cartomiser or clearomiser for them.
So back to those kits - if a slightly biggr device isnt a problem, then definitely go for one of them.
the VE Rive 1100 Deluxe Kit has a fair bit higher battery life compared to the other (1100mah), the other kit has a 650mah battery, therefore lasting almost double the time. Theres also included in the kit:
1 x Vision Ego Standard Resistance Clearomisers 5 x Standard Resistance Cartomisers
The Vision Ego Standard Resistance Clearomisers is decent, it can be filled quite easily (just be careful not to drop any on ur hands when filling) and can last a fair while. The different between that one and from the other kit - 2 x CE5 Clearmoizers (1.5ml) 2.6-2.8 Ohm is the 2 x CE5 Clearmoizers (1.5ml) 2.6-2.8 Ohm do need need to be thrown away when they stop performing (after weeks or around a month+ usually), as they can be unscrewed and just the head of it can be replace, hat other kit comes with 2 extra head in addition to the 2 included in the clearomisers.
The first kit also has the 5 x Standard Resistance Cartomisers, they are not bad too, they take a bit longr to fill and u cant see when they are running out of liquid, u have to get a feel for when that happens, theyre quite decent tho as they dont have too many problems with leaking or wicking etc, but the flavour sometimes isnt as great as the clearomiser - still good to try them some time and I use to use similar ones.
So the battery I'd personally go for is 900mah+, the ce5 clearomisers I'd go for and at those price points - maybe theres one around with both
For liquids, theres a load of the around, can b good to start around 18mg (aka 1.8%) depends whether ud b after tobacco flavours, fruit, etc

Hi, welcome. Don't get disposables they are horrible, at least the ones I tried were. Get a clearomiser kit that comes with 2 batteries and some 18mg juice. If your mum only smokes a few a day the 650mah batteries should be fine and they are the smallest of the ego batteries apart from mini egos/sd keyrings which are really only useful for stealth vaping.

Hi - I'm recent convert and smoked around the same amount as you mum. The 650mah batteries are more than adequate for me so I'm sure she will be fine with them. The other plus is they''re not to big to use out of the house and not a million miles away from a cigarette size unlike the 1100's. I have a viva La Riva kit which I love. This comes with a tank, 10ml of juice, and 5 cartomisers. This way she can see which she prefers and refill the cartos or pour juice straight in the tank. Most of my juice comes from paradise vapes who do a great range of tobacco flavours. I have seen people say royals is pretty close to British cigis so I would order that at the same time. If she runs out she will be straight on the fags! 18mg is the best place to start and 70/30 pg/vg is the normal ratio to begin with

Welcome idlewild. I smoked Embassy no.1 for years and they are full strength fags (discounting filterless camel, roll ups and navy smokes... ) Rated at 0.9 nicotine, I'd say either go for a medium e-liquid (juice) at 15-20mg. I don't think a 10mg liquid would it, from personal experience of course. I would recommend the Riva kit to anybody (I have one, I love it). Trouble is, you are in a tricky position. Mini/disposable e-cigs are all very well but they are all about marketing and sales. There isn't even one on the market (currently) that can genuinely provide enough nicotine (without buying/using LOTS of cartridges) for smokers looking to convert, unless they are used to low tar/low nicotine brands. However, I don't expect your Mum is going to need 1100 batteries or even such a large device. I would get on the web and look at either making your own kit for her with mini ego batteries or maybe even a simple 510 kit. www.vapeescape.co.uk/510-carto-kit~300Alternatively, 5-10 a day is not so many ciggies, so maybe this is good..(ignore the rubbish about medium to heavy use - EVERYONE needs 2 batteries......) jacvapour.com/all-products/starter-kits/v1p-pcc-starter-kit-992.htmlJacvapour sell prefilled cartridges which I can vouch for as being quite good. Their cartridges are only £1 more than empty ones, and if she gets into it, she can learn how to refill them. Nearly everybody gets into filling, but some folk are happy just to use pre-filled. I lent my JacVapour kit to a work mate. He bought almost the same kit to replace it (after giving it back to me) and uses less than 1 packet of carts a week. The VapeEscape 510 kits are good, but I wouldn't suggest one with "atomisers", just go for simple cartomisers for now....

welcome to the forum either of those kits would be great for your mum................ there are so many juices out there......... would your mum want a tobacco type juice? unfortunately, the juices cant capture the true "tobacco" taste although there are some out there that are a good substitute, I think vapist's cinder no2 is a good tobacco one or RY4 gets good reviews, and heard good things about benson & fences............. just have a browse on the vendors sites and start off with a sample pack to see which one your mum enjoys the best and then order larger bottles. dont forget if you order from one of the vendors on here to check for their discount code

Hello from me too I think this is the kit Crin has It has everything to get started even some liquid. You can choose some pre-filled cartmisers with it so as your mum can just screw them on and vape away. the pre-filled cartos can also be re-filled a few times when they start to loose flavour!

Hi Idlewild and #welcome2#
I've not got a lot to add to the above excellent suggestions except one thing. If you know the reasons why your mum wants to quit smoking, along with her favourite tastes, this will be a lot of help when it comes to choosing juices. The most usual reasons of course are health and money - but one of mine was the horrible taste I had in my mouth in the mornings (and the horrible smell of old smoke as well). I made a conscious decision NOT to use tobacco-flavoured juices just because I hated that taste so much. Instead, I went with flavours I knew I liked - like Cinnamon Danish, Cherry, Chocolate Fudge Brownie, that kind of thing. And I haven't had a cigarette since my Cherry JAC Vapour cig-a-like arrived. I wouldn't actually recommend the JAC unless it has to be a cig-a-like (it's one of the better ones at that size), I'd go with the Ego or Riva.
Clearomisers (CE5) are dead simple to fill and reasonably cheap to replace, get a few so you have back ups for back ups. The cartomisers aren't difficult to fill either, it's just not as easy to tell when they need it. And get a few different 10ml bottles of juice - tobacco, fruit, dessert flavours, maybe a menthol. That way you're maximising your mum's chances of success.
This is a lovely thing you're doing for your mum, good luck and Merry Christmas to you!

Thank you all for such a lovely welcome! Your comments have all been so helpful, thank you! I've plumped for the Viva La Riva kit as it seemed like the best size and comes with all the necessary equipment. The only thing was selecting the nicotine level of the pre-filled carts -- they only came in 8mg and 24mg. So I chose the 24mg one -- I hope it doesn't blow her head off I loved looking for e-liquids. I've bought the sample packs from Alchemist's Cupboard as they sounded really nice, so there's a good mix of tobacco and fruit/sweet-flavoured ones. I love that Paradise Vape even have a Bucks Fizz flavour! Something I'm not too clear on is how long all the different bits and bobs last. Can someone give me a rough idea of what needs replaced and how often? I know it will vary a lot between vapers, but an estimate would be really helpful. Thanks once again!

A warm welcome from me Idle. The longevity of any of our gear can depend so much on the amount someone vapes, so it's almost impossible to put a time frame on things . . . back ups and spares are essential in our world!
