For me it was the initial cost. Once you have a small set up then its really inexpensive, but initially finding the right juice and what have you can be pricey. Mind you I hadn't found this place then and all my "expertise" was learnt from you tube and google and I actually didnt know if it was going to be another massive fail and an expensive one at that. But if someone had been kind enough to let me try one first, I would have made damn sure I got one because there was no way to fail really. That's how both hubby and my lass stopped, because I allowed them to dribble all over mine.

I sometimes think that it was by good luck rather than by good judgement that I found e-cigs and then stiuck with them. I read about them on a Camping Forum, just at the time that I was going through a " I really need to chuck the fags" stage. The Skycig system I bought came with 4 or 5 flavours. If it had come with just the tobacco cartos, then I would still be smoking because these were rank!!! But fortunately the Menthol and the Cherry flavours were nice enough to keep me vaping. Then I found out I could refill these and again I was lucky because the first juice I bought was a really good Menthol that I loved and that kept me on the vaping road. Indeed I still use that brand of Menthol but I have since tasted some horrible ones. Again by luck I found an e-cig forum, but I was not very happy there, but through them I found AAEC and this forum is my idea of a nice place to be. And lastly, but by no means the least, I found a good Vendor. He has helped me more than he will ever know. I can talk over things on the phone and I am very happy with the goods he sells me. My human good luck charm!!!! Yes, in my case I just stumbled onto equipment and e-juices that suited me, and fortunately I was well hooked on vaping before I came across anything that was so bad that it was binned. I think maybe there is a little vaping angel up there looking down on me.

I had been looking into it for a while, then I tried a cig-a-like and it was passable. What really made my mind up was when the owner of said cig-a-like told me that she had noticed that her hands 'felt warm all the time'. It was like a moment of clarity - being 28 and having crap circulation (and no doubt the 'lungs of a 75 year old') just didn't feel like a price worth paying. I took my time and with some really good help from you guys decided to do it properly rather than messing about with Tesco's level stuff - OK I've been at it for like 2 days and I don't really see me going down the full customisation route, to be honest, but I was always a very fussy smoker with brands, etc, and when I got my eGo / CE4 fired up there was no going back. Only at the very first thing in the morning do I fancy a cigarette, but I will get used to even that. Like some of you said above, it's really not much different from changing brands, which I used to do every 3 months or so anyway. There's no looking back now. [...] its like smoking 2.0 That. Right there. That's what it is. It's actually better than smoking, it costs far less, and as one of my colleagues said the other day while we were walking towards a restaurant "you look like something out of Blade Runner with that thing!" - which I took as a compliment. Do Androids Dream of Electric Cigarettes? I really hope one day soon I will be able to vape away in Starbucks (or non-chain, taxpaying coffee establishment of my choice), we shall see. Next thing now is to get my Mum converted - I'm staying with her and my sister over Christmas - I've mentioned it once, and she mumbled something about having tried one of someone else's. My plan is to buy her a kit, but hide it in my bag. I'm hoping curiosity will kill the cat (sorry Chrissie! ), and I will just answer her questions, make sure she sees me filling up, charging etc, so i basically explain all of this stuff to her without her realising it, then present her with her "one last gift" just as we're about to leave on like the 28th. All the points people made above about people kicking back and resisting if you try to persuade have confirmed this for me...

Im still smoking and vaping but im very new to vaping and dont have a great set up at the minute. Im ordering my ego ce5 next week and think from then on I will be happy only vaping! think I need to experiment with different juices too. I do agree though even though Im having the odd one It does feel a bit silly as even when Im vaping I dont actually feel like ive packed in its true what a previous poster said its almost like changing brands and adjusting. Thats the way I will look at it from now only thing that gets me is the nights out! x

Don't worry about it Cakey. It's quite sensible to still smoke a few in the early days, it takes time to get a kit and juices that suit you

I can't belive I've been whiffling for almost a year!
Happy with an Ego or Riva as they suit my hands (which are child size) though I have tried some mods.
Currently really liking the Kanger T2 (tried t3 also but prefer the t2). Can't imagine smoking cigs now - it's months since I tried a puff of one but it tasted so bad....my advice to new starters is to tell yourself it's a new brand as well. That worked for me. First week, I dreamt of cigs and lighters though I didn't crave a ciggie and since then, not thought about them at all.

Someday someone will bring out an e-cig that looks, feels and tastes just like a cigarette, cost less than one tenth the price and everybody will be raving about it, and yet, some folks will still just want to smoke fags. That is the way life is. The only way you will ever get a mass migration from cigarettes on to e-cigs is if the smoking of tobacco is banned. Now there is some talk of such a ban being introduced here in Scotland by 2024. So perhaps the Mixers better get busy now!!!! All my neighbours have tried e-cigs, but they are all still smoking fags. Ofcourse I would like to see them change, but not for their health but simply so that I can sit in my garden and not have to put up with the stink of their second hand smoke wafting across my space while they stand outside to stop their stink contaminating their houses.

A mate and work colleague of mine used to see me vaping regularly, and raving about how good it was, didn't seem like I had given up, just changed brands, etc. and finally capitulated and bought a starter kit. Now he vapes more than me, and absolutely loves it! I only took it up because I saw a link to 'Electronic Cigarettes - do they really work?' on a completely un-connected forum, and the time was right for me - I was wheezing, coughing, and getting to that age when I thought "Time to do something about this filthy habit!". And I'm so glad I did - I hate the smell of smoke and smokers now, and find I'm not vaping as much as I used to smoke, although the OH is happy for me to vape inside, which I never did when smoking. OP - when your neighbour is ready, he'll give it a proper try. In the meantime, just let him see you vaping, and eventually he'll come round. Andy

I didn't take up vaping to give up, just thought I'd try it after being told about it by a visitor to my place of work, and hearing his story. Did a bit of research, found THIS forum, and bypassed the look-a-likes for the eGo system. Since that first vape, nearly 5 months ago, I don't even think about a fag. I still go out to the smoking area to vape, so it feels I've not given anything up. During that time, and seeing how well I've been getting on, about 20 colleagues have tried it, and the only ones that have gone back to ciggies are the youngsters. I can only assume it's their 'street cred' that's being threatened with their mates in the pub. The ones that gave up vaping were on the look-a-likes, the ones that went for a decent kit are still vaping and very happy.
