Hey all. So it's very early days but I recently discovered I'm up the duff. Which is fab, it was planned. But now onto the delicate, hairy topic of vaping while preggo...
I asked my doctor while I was trying and she said that obviously it's better to stop altogether, but that vaping, if it is only introducing nicotine into your body, is miles better than smoking, and that doctors are now prescribing the nicotine patch to pregnant women...which can't be any better than vaping.
Now, I really don't like hearing sanctamonious people telling women what to do with their bodies, but in this case, such people have a point. Nicotine, like caffeine and alcohol, is a poison. And it would be best quit altogether.
However, my doctor also warned that in the early trimester, cold turkey can be stressful on the body, and all stress should be avoided.
I've ordered some 6mg juice, which I hope gets to me before xmas. So now I'm wondering whether I should vape that occassionally, now and again, with some zero nic in between, or just quit altogether, maybe at New Years. I KNOW the latter is the ideal outcome, but being an addict, also know it's not as simple as that. Part of me is saying, just do the right thing, but that little addict voice is whispering in my ear - 'Oh c'mon, it's only 6mg, as long as you don't chain it....and doesn't the body not asbsorb as much nicotine from an ecig as from a cigarette...? Just 6 measly mg..'
I will probably end up doing the right thing. Any ladies here been in this situation? Anyone vaped while pregnant? Please no judgement or hysteria. Thanks for reading.

congratulations on the pregnancy Booblay, nice to know your graphic stories of insemination were not in vain really pleased for you. I can't see low nictotine juice being any more harmful than drinking coffee when pregnant, Good luck

Firstly, Congratulations on your pregnancy. I'd like to know wether your doctor was advocating it or not. I wish I could advise you really but maybe try halving your nic week by week to zero, its the same method that patches use by weening your body off nic so your body doesnt miss it, the patches worked for me for my 2 year quit (starting again was daft i know).
Good luck, and congratulations once again!!

congratulations on the pregnancy Booblay, nice to know your graphic stories of insemination were not in vain WHAT! Where? How did I miss that? If your GP is willing to prescribe NRT they must have some evidence that it is OK, I would have hoped ???

Congratulations so happy for you I smoked through both my pregnancies and my kids are fine but if I had known about vaping I would have done that instead with it without nicotine because I think the nasty chemicals in cigs are worse than the nicotine but that's just my opinion. Do what you think is best for you as stress will not help baby at all !

Congrats booby.......... ....I can't see vaping will cause any harm.....even normal smoking in moderation wouldn't harm.............I think the only time it's probably best not to light up is during conception.................

Congratulations! I think it's down to personal preference. Go back to the 80's when I was born and my mum drank stout while she was pregnant because the midwife recommended it to her for the extra iron. Go back to the 50's and I bet most women who smoked didn't even consider stopping while they were pregnant because it was considered a healthy habit.
In today's world they tell you that you can't eat ice cream, or eggs or nuts just in-case blah blah blah and look at what's happening... MORE children are been diagnosed with allergic reactions to things! Parents who wont let there kids play out and get mucky are not letting there children's immune systems build up enough to fight off relatively minor infections and illnesses, which makes them more ill in the long run. Asthma is another problem which is on the rise. Scientists also believe this is to do with children spending too much time inside the house rather than been outside.
All caused by the bubble wrapped society that we live in today.
The way I see it is... eat everything, just in small doses, have a drink but don't over do it, vape, just not at high doses. It's YOUR baby YOUR body, if anyone tells you otherwise you have the right to give them the middle finger!

Congratulations I'm certainly not advocating smoking, but I cannot think that vaping will cause too many issues. However I'd try and cut your nicotine down as far as you can because babies can pick up a mothers addictions Having said that I smoked and drank stout and I had perfectly healthy babies. In fact my last where I had given up trying to give up when preggars, was a big strapping lad

Congrats booblay! If you want a little in depth reading have a look at this. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2656811/ I think it's considered that NRT risks are out weighed by the smoking risks. But yet again not enough research so can't give deffinates.

Congratulations! This seems to be a more recent view www.nhs.uk/news/2011/07July/Pages/nicotine-patches-quit-smoking-pregnancy.aspxI'd try on zero nic - it may be easier than you think. If it doesn't work then obviously vape, not smoke. I don't normally believe in low nic - if you are anything like me you just vape more - but I suppose it may be better for a baby if the nic intake is spread out.
