Something I've been wondering about since I started vaping. To clarify I've only been vaping for just over a month but I've been smoking for 27 years so I'd consider myself an expert smoker but novice vaper. A smoke is a smoke, is a smoke. It just does the job, it tastes the same everytime, I know I can have a smoke then I'm sorted for at least an hour. I know that if I have more than two on the trot it will make me feel lightheaded and queasy. I know that the second I inhale all the worlds troubles go away for another hour But with vaping.... Some days what tasted great the night before tastes like poo the next day, in fact what was really hitting the spot 10 minutes ago might be a complete fail the next time. Some moments not enough TH, the next time too much. Not enough flavour or vapour, then 5 minutes later just right. Clearo not doing it for me, so switch to Nova and sometimes that doesn't work and I just need my cig alike. Sometimes I need loads and loads of vapes, sometimes two or three is enough. Then I generally I have the right nic level and juice in the right device but 10 minutes later... who the hell knows It all seems pretty random with vaping, to get it just right. So my questions are... Is this because with rollups I had no choice, it was what it was; with vaping I have all the choice in the world so psychologically I can't make my mind up? Is it because temperature, voltage, juice and even how you pull can drastically change vaping's effects it's difficult to get a consistent effect? Or have I just spent so long with smoking that I'd honed it to a fine art over the years without even realising and I'm comparing a lifetime of smoking practice Vs a month of vaping? Am I normal? lol

Yes I have the problem where if I know there are lots of choices then I can't settle on one. Maybe I'm indecisive or maybe it's the "grass is greener" syndrome.

Smoking has a lot of variables too.
I could never smoke ready mades, too dry. My brand of tobacco was important, Amber Leaf (Golden Virginia was similar and a backup but my choice was Amber Leaf) Old Holburn or any of the others was not to my taste.
The roll was very important, even with thousands of hours practice I sometime had a rolly that wasn't quite right, too tight, too loose or whatever.
How many fags were actually very satisfying. Not many for me, maybe 30% of the fags I had each day were really enjoyable.
Vaping is still relatively new to you, and me. But when I started vaping, about 6 weeks ago I immediately dropped down to 2 or 3 fags a day and none of them I enjoyed. I dropped the fags completely just over 2 weeks ago and since then I have had 1 or 2 moments where I sort of wanted a fag (but didn't give in) and the smell of smokers is horrible.
I don't get the wow factor with vaping that a lot seem to get but the vape is not unpleasant and more importantly it satisfies and takes away the desire to smoke.
I'm still experimenting and working out what I like best. With fags there were less variables but with vaping the possibilities are huge.

My problem with smoking v vaping is I could only smoke 20 cigs a day and half the time I wasted some, not wanting one but needed the habit. Now I find a beautiful vape and I can quite happily vape all day, so I have not cut down on my nicotine intake but increased it.
I smoked Silk Cut 5mg nic, carbon and tar, some days I get a little breathless after vaping too much, but it is really hard not to as it takes so damn good. I never think about vaping when out and about and never take a batt out with me?

I have a different take on it I suppose. When I started smoking, like everyone else , it tasted awful, made me feel sick and dizzy. As an impressionable adolescent, I stuck with it because all my mates were smoking. It didnt make it taste any better, it was, after all, SMOKE. What I am saying is that I got used to the taste, coughing etc. But it was never pleasant. Then the nicotine got a grip on me and 40 years of abusing my body with fags started. It is an addiction to nicotine which conned my brain into thinking that I was enjoying it. It has been said that nicotine is many times more addictive than heroine. I am vaping now, so I am still getting my fix, that is what it is. Vaping IS pleasurable, there is a pleasant taste as opposed to SMOKE which if we are honest with ourselves can never be pleasurable. Our first impressions of a fag were that it was pretty disgusting, the nicotine convinced us that it wasnt after a short period. I dont really get the WOW factor either with vaping but the whole experience where it has turned into a hobby is very important to my continuing with vaping. It has added something extra to what was always a NICOTINE DELIVERY SYSTEM. My taste buds vary throughout the day, but I can always find something to feel happy enough with. The most important thing of course is that I am not taking all the nasty cancer giving substances that are in fags, my breathing is much better than it has been for many years and if I need a FIX, I can get it anywhere, with a bit of stealth and an ecig considerably smaller than a Vamo lol.

Well, if you're not, we're together in the looney bin. I too was thinking about this last night. Trying to come up with logical reasons, I thought about food an drinks. I remember going out for food or drinks and just having "what I always had" or in the case of beer, what they sold. Take me to a pub that has 4 beers and 3 guest beers and it's like meltdown. Only 1/4 of my juices are sure-fire hits, the rest I seem to get into or go off with no sense to it at all. Too much choice? Grass is greener? Yes, all those things. Sometime I wish I stopped when I was just vaping tobacco/vanilla mixed. But then I discovered "samples" and realised there were lots of great flavours out there (Black Cat and Citrus/Arctic Lemon from VE). I guess you have to try some out and take the risk that some are just not going to do it for you. My problem is working out what to throw away or give away (for free) or sell on. If I get rid of 30,40,50(?) ml just because I'd rather vape something else, what happens if I run out or e-liquid gets banned or suddenly it's 3 times as expensive because it all gets regulated. Got to say, I'd happily vape something that's only a 5/10 if the choices were expensive juice or go back to smokes or NRT. NRT was wasted on me. I could kill the cravings dead with strong patches, but the nervous/anxious side of me went crazy for the "act" of smoking. ???

One of the big pluses for me is that I vape indoors where I always used to go outside to smoke.

I think the nicotine / habits / variables have been covered. Don't forget that by vaping you're also depriving your body of the 4,000 or so other chemicals that it had come to expect and need.

I was struggling with finding the right mix, some days good some days bad. I recently bought a 5 pack of low resistance Dual coils and have 5 diff flavours in them. One of them is a 100vg no nic and the others are 70/30 18mg and 15mg. I ususally try the differnet flavours and if non of them work i put the No nic VG cart onto another battery and choose a cart with nic in it and vape with both carts at the same time Dont do this often but it helps alot when nothing is working
