Just about to start my own creations after all my orders have been delivered. Just wondering though, can you use plain old natural vanilla essence in your juices, or is it best not too?? Also, I am going to be mixing into empty juice bottles. Do these need to be sterilized before use since all they have contained is juice??? (if they do, I think I still have some home brew sterilizer around somewhere.) Many thanks.

Depends what else is in your ' natural ' vanilla essence Dave . . . there's several very nice ready made Vanilla concentrates, or you can buy Vanillin Crystals . . . and even steep vanilla pods themselves to extract flavour.
The problem with a number of these so say ' natural ' supermarket bakery flavourings is that they aren't always as pure as the label leads you to believe.
Plus, supermarket flavours generally tend to be weaker so you need more and they don't always hold their flavour so well either.
I give my bottles a jolly good rinse through with warm water and unless they've had a really potent flavour in them, that's about it.
Other mixers I believe use that baby bottle sterilzing stuff.

Ahh, a good old rinse, that I can do I was just needing some vanilla as it must be the only flavour I didnt order, and NEED some custard mixed up. I may just mix it without the vanilla, then add some vanilla ejuice that I have that I dont particularly like by itself.

That sounds like a very good idea Dave, with the Vanilla ejuice that you're not keen on . . . do try the VC by itself first though before you add to it, it's not at all bad au naturale.

Think I best mix 3 batches up, and play with each one . Do people generally use approx. 20% flavour?

Well, 3 mixes made. Dont know how they will turn out, as one was an 'adapted recipe', one was loosely based on a recipe, and one was completely made up. I also seemed to have a problem sticking to the amounts stated in the recipe I did loosely follow, but thats also how I cook, and that usually turns out okay. I did a vanilla custard mix, a french toast mix (I will keep you informed Perpetua!), and a raspberry and toasted almond mix. Heres hoping (dont know how I will wait a week or two for steeping!)

I'm a great one for inpromptu mixing as well Dave . . . part of the creative fun for me, looking forward to hearing how your creations have turned out for you. You can speed the steeping a little by standing your bottles in a cup of warm water . . .
