In my experience if they still smell they need another wash otherwise I re-use them.

Or, just mix at the strength I normally do . . . sees off most/any residue flavour.

For strong smelling bottles I stick them in a milton solution (Karma is right) then I rinse in hot tap water. They won't be sterile but atleast it shifts the smell If I'm mixing another batch of the same flavour I just bung it in tho

But what about new bottles? If you have a batch of band new bottles will I need to give them a rinse before I start my very first mixing session Don't have many old ones lying about cause up till I joined here I just binned them cause I never thought I would ever try mixing lol Don't want my first session to go pear shaped cause the juice tastes of plastic lol

I'd just go ahead and use them, although if you're a bit wary rinse them with hot water and leave to dry.

How long will it take to wash them out, 30 seconds?
Why not do it and put your mind at rest?

Rinse in very hot water. Then you might as well do the washing up.

To be honest I can't really be bothered washing out the new ones unless it was going to affect the taste etc. Just with me being a mixing newbie I wanted to know if everyone else done it or if it didn't make any difference. If most folks just bang it all in the bottle as it comes that will be good enough for me

Rinse in very hot water. Then you might as well do the washing up. That's why they invented dishwashers lol

Of my recent order of 100ml bottles, I steeped them in a basin of warm water to which I added 6 tablets of Steradent Tablets which are claimed to kill 99.9% of bacteria. They stayed there for a couple of hours. I then placed all the bottles in the dishwasher and put them through the normal cycle.
Perhaps a bit of overkill, but as these bottles were heading for the freezer and will not be opened for long time, I felt it better to be safe than sorry.

You usually wash any new kitchen utensil before using don't you, well I do to remove residue from manufacturing deposits. I wash new and used bottles in a bowl of really hot sudsy water, rinse then sterilise for 20 mins., thoroughly dry before using. I have about 50 already and waiting to be used but I have gone off mixing my own, I cannot replicate what I like. Had some good mixes though. I don't need a dishwasher. # #

So..... I have just had a delivery of 8000 new bottles, drippers and caps..... Should I spend the next 66 Hours washing them (continuous at 30secs per bottle, no breaks or stops)?

Perfect answer frogster, all the 10ml ones came from you so if you don't need to rinse then niether do I. Now off to try my 1st session once I find a decent mixing calculator
