Ive tried to quit umpteen times with the use of various nicotine replacement therapies or drugs (champix, zyban) and with absoloutly no success.
However swapping to an e-cig was a cinch! I caved my first weekend and smoked a couple of fags, and nothing since... its been so easy to swap over to the newer healthier alternative.
As for the health implications, there are a number of reports out there from studies and analysis on them.
IMO Whilst there is some concern that there are health considerations with e-cigs, they are a much healthier alternative to real tobacco.

Yes i found it very easy, and I started well before the advent of all the Tornado kits, great choices of battery mods and multitudes of atties that have since come into the vaping world.
Gawd i sound like a right veteran lol.

You are a veteran Buck! I found it relatively easy to make the transition from smoking to vaping, although it was a couple of weeks before I could be totally ciggy free . . . once I'd decided that the first cig of the day, wasn't enjoyable anymore, it was a done deal. There's no doubt in my mind that I've found a healthier way to enjoy a nicotine addiction . . . I was killing myself smoking. . . a year on I feel so much better, that's all the proof I need.

On the day I came home from the local car boot with my cheap ecig kit I tried it, then had a few drags on a rollie, then tried it again. Deciding there wasn't a great deal of difference I decided to stick to it. 2 Weeks later I sold my 750 grammes of tobacco and gave away all my rollie tips and papers. Since that day I've only had a few drags on an analogue and decided I never want to go there again. After 36 years of dedicated smoking even through chemotherapy, I never thought anything would make me want to give up, ecigs have been the easiest transition I've ever known in my entire 48 years

I bought my started kit just for "fun". After a few days I decided it just tasted better than cigarettes ! (that I had smoked for 40+ years !) Switching to vaping was easy for me.

thank the lord I have seen the light and possibly avoid such consequences. That was sensible to include "possibly", Ken - but we long-term smokers will not be able to blame e-cigs for the nasties that may still be in store for us. That doesn't stop us feeling a lot better than we otherwise would TODAY! I do envy the young vapers among us who've found vaping before they've done too much damage scylla

Scylla how'd u do that? Get a bit of the post in a quote? I've tried and always end up reposting the whole quote making the point I'm trying to make irrelevant LOL x

Dee, use the quote facility & then just use the delete key to delete the bits you don't want to quoute River, it will be 3 years this June since I started vaping. I've had no ill effects whatsoever - far from it.

Ah, maybe we need to find a way to make it more difficult Joking apart, you aren't the first one to feel there should be more pain for so much gain

When I finally gave up cigarettes (and pipe), I had four days of withdrawal symptoms. The e-cigs helped me through those days, otherwise I'm sure I would have gone back to smoking.

I smoked 'cheap' cigarettes, maybe they're more adictive,i don't know but it took me two months to finally get to switch completely and at some points i was going nuts!! So it's really nice to hear when people find it easy :-) But then i think even people who find it difficult and take their time can also eventually benefit.

I wonder if there's any difference as to the ease of switching between those who smoked normal cigs and those of us who were rollie smokers? I found it unbelievably easy, but I had already moved from cigs to rollies and had smoked rollies for about 5 years.

I used both, Dee. In my case, I think the withdrawal was mostly psychological, since I was down to three cigarettes a day. When I decided to stop, it was the first time in 46 years that I didn't light up a cigarette.
