Since getting my did clone I have wasted about 8 hours trying to make the mesh wick work but every single time I think I've done it, a vape or 2 later and I get a hot spot or a coil which goes pop. The mesh is blacker than Black and I've watched enough videos to know I've done everything right but it still does not want to work. I've given in and gone back to my trusty vivi nova.

Which way are you doing the mesh? Don't get me wrong, I couldn't do a genesis either with a mesh wick, gave up like you, but after using one on a pheonix, I think I could make it work now, just don't want to Main points I've learned, don't quench wick, make sure coil isn't too tight or loose all the way round, especially into connections, if you get a hot spot loosen or tighten slightly wire, start the voltage very low and work your way up. HTH's

I felt very much the same and have spent considerably more than 8 hours trying to get a mesh and wire setup just right. Metres of wire and a sheet and a half of mesh later I feel I'm only just starting to get it. My coils still get hotspots after a day or two and I'm constantly fiddling with them.
Bit when it works well it's f#%&?*g awesome! And I'm gradually getting better at it.
Whether it's worth the learning curve or not is a matter of taste and patience. I ended up setting my AGA-T aside and fiddling with it every now and again while in front of the TV or when I had 5 minutes to spare. I still do and it can still be frustrating.
My advice is to not give up - just try in smaller doses and don't take the metallic taste personally.

You don't want your wick blacker than black. Heat the mesh to a dull red,do that a couple of times, mesh should be a sort of blue/grey.Job done

I had the same problem with my mini DiD clone until I used the drill bit method , if you haven't already give it a go .

so guessing hot spot is at top of coil ok mine are not brilliant like seen on vids nor are they perfectly spaced but hey it works,no they dont glow perfectly like todds do lol so if you want to try one last time i will go through mine lol
Mesh- found those little brule torchs work a lot better than a cooker, when you torch it do Both sides of mesh, when you have rolled it reburn it red along it again, i think this is mainly to set wick from springing out from rolling ,whenyou done that few drops of juice then re torch do that twice
Wire; use .2 kanthal to start with, earth clamp [screw on atty]screw the wire around the back of the screw[near to center post] use 5 coils, now this is what i have done till i get used to coiling, some jump on this oh no !, when you place wire in the knurl nut push top of coil towards post,if it touchs when its all clamped, just tweak coil and wick away from center post till you have a maybe a 1 or 2 ml gap,now just check coil just tweak if any coil is touching another,if not leave it,check resistance, drip few bits of juice on it 3 sec burn till it starts to vape ,rejuice repeat it.do it about 3 times, fill tank and enjoy.....
once you have got the first few going coil prettyness you can improve on
like everyone found that if the coil has not been well tempered/ and juiced... you got hot spots, low ohms or worked then blew or resistance dropped a lot no matter how many coils an then blew sound familiar lol

I read somewhere about putting a small wrap of clingfilm around the mesh where it would touch the base of the atomiser solving hotspots... Because the base touching the mesh was causing a short.

Not clingfilm, a rizla. When you fire the kanthal it burns away leaving a layer of carbon under the coil.

Here MP: www.themeshcompany.com/I've decided Genesis Atomisers aren't for me, technically they're beyond my skills and they don't especially suit the Dessert/Pudding Flavours I prefer. Happily, this conclusion is saving me some squids.
