The 'old timers' in here will remember my SD and the fact that i didn't rate it as a mod and could never understand why so many people held it in such high regard?

well, recently, a guy on UKV asked for an SD in exchange for 2 Ego 900 batteries & charger, i contacted him, offering my SD as my son could make use of the ego batts and the SD was lying unused in a drawer....

I sent it to him and after a faff obout with batteries, etc. he sent me this message today....

I am sorry about all that but I have been using the SD for a couple days and again I am experiencing problems with it. It works like a dream for a while and then not at all for a while as well, it's just really unpredictable, I am always taking the battery out, moving it around and put it back in... it does not really deliver the battery juice at times... don't understand to be honest!

Do you mind if we 'cancel' the deal, I'll send you a bit of liquid for you to try and add a SD cap that I got as a 'sorry about all that'.
It is just that it does not work as it should to be honest, I had a SD before and it was working perfectly every time, did not have any problem like that :s

Is that all right with you?

So....do you think it'd be worth contacting Trog about it?

I know it must be a year old by now, but as mod usage goes, it's had very little use...

I'm not sure how the MK 1 works, if it is a similar action to the MK 11 it could be a problem with the switch spring sticking?

I'd get it back first Lilac and make sure it's not something silly like the problem with my MK 11. If not then I'd definately message them about it.

I think, Dee, that it's something to do with juice leaking into the head part affecting the contacts, as it always worked better if i dried it thoroughly with a bit of card or a pipe cleaner...

I sometimes have the same with my MK11, it's just one of those things. I tend to wipe mine over with kitchen roll, occasionally screwing some up and wiping down inside the threads.

It could be a number of things. Switch, cap conection etc. I once had one that would'nt work if it had the thin rubber o ring on it. Probably best to let trog have a look at it then sell it on. If you know someone close who has a mk1, do a part swap to find out what it is.

Blue, i bought it when Trog had the 2for1 offer...a number of us bought them then, i think most of those had a problem with them, i know Lolli, who got the other one when i bought them, did....

I just wrote it off as a not so good mod, tbh...

but, as you say, it might be interesting to see what Trog makes of it...i wouldn't sell it on now, not after Christophe on UKV said it wasn't like the last markI he had, and just didn't work well...

lilac, at that time it would have been different from the last MK1 Christophe had because the BOGOF offer was around the time the Mk2 changed to the Mk2 style switch. All Mk1s since then have that switch and I've not come across lots of people having problems.

There are a few possible reasons, but I'd urge you to send it trog to let him have a look. I have seven Mk1 SDS (!) and they have all been absolutely fine.

I love these things and have one of the rare brass button models that I keep unused in it's box
