I always hated Picasso until I saw Guernica in Madrid - I'm now a convert Same goes for Van Gogh, as it happens. The real thing is far more powerful than any photograph. But then I am an arty type

I think it's the other half of her face, you can see it from the side and the front simultaneously...

I always hated Picasso until I saw Guernica in Madrid - I'm now a convert Same goes for Van Gogh, as it happens. The real thing is far more powerful than any photograph. But then I am an arty type I saw an exhibition of all the preparatory work he did for Guernica it was fascinating to see the progression of ideas from simple thumbnail sketches and sketch books to full blown drawings and brush sketches as big as the actual painting itself, some even bigger. You're dead right about seeing the real thing. A few years ago I went to the National Gallery just after they had restored all their Van Gogh's and re-hung them, the sheer intensity and brilliance of the colours was fantastic, no photograph could ever capture that. I suppose that art is a bit like e-juice, every one's taste is different, some you'll all agree on, some you won't, but there's something for everyone.
