I don't know whether your truly okay because your one very funny guy on here. Being on here takes my mind away from my OCD, it helps a lot as i cannot see much around me apart from my p.c screen and reading posts takes my mind of things, saying that though even typing posts makes it kick in as when i type i am thinking of mistakes. Here is a classic example: Made 30ml of a mix using Tobacco Haze and because it almost used all of the concentrate it played on my mind that the level of liquid is not the same as the rest of the liquids which causes lack of rest and sleep. I have also been known to empty tomato ketchup away until it is the same level as the brown sauce and vice versa, sounds crazy i know, it's a curse, i told the therapist today that i would prefer to sleep forever as i hate waking up because as soon as i open my eyes it starts all over again. She has referred me to a Occupational therapist, just gotta wait for that appointment now, it's never ending.

Raffles let me do your worrying for you. Its my purpose in life. stamina... it doesn't have to be. We are all entitled to happiness, and a care free life. Some can do it easily, some others, like us, find it difficult. We take on the whole world's problems and think it's down to us to solve them. In the cold light of day, we know we can't do it, but we still worry about it anyway. The only way I've found to control this ridiculous obsession, is to force myself to look at the 24/7 world news and see what is going on elsewhere, and then give myself a 'bl**dy' good talking to in my mind, and say 'would i rather be there...?' No, of course I wouldn't, and for a time, I'm just grateful for where i am. Just need to keep reminding ourselves and be grateful for what we've got... not easy... but it could be far, far worse.

Super-Shiny... I've just 'liked' your last post, which seems a bit weird when you're describing what you're going through! But you've opened up to all of us and for that I truly thank you. One of my sons has a form of OCD, and I think he may have got it from me... I'm not sure, because I never go to the doctors, but there are things like... I always go back to my door 5 or 6 times to make sure I've locked it. Will even unlock and go back in again to make sure I've switched things off. It can only help to talk about it.

Very true Raffles ,it feels much better when you talk about it, can't talk about it at home as i get the "Oh not this again, get over it" scenario. OCD i think ,not 100% sure normally can come from Aspergers of which i have, my eldest has slight Aspergers, my middle son has slight Autism, my second youngest has slight motor ticks, my new born won't know until he gets older if he has anything wrong.

Romelee I'm sorry for your difficulties and don't really know what to say because my OCD is not that bad, I see my OCD, not to sure whether to call it that but I see it as a game, I mean let me explain. When I line up my sauce bottles they all have to be in a line like in a military formation before they go into battle. The stairs is quite a funny one as I won't turn on the light if the switch is pointing downwards because the upstairs one is pointing upwards, so I have to run upstairs to turn the switch downwards then run back downstairs for it to be pointing upwards then I can walk upstairs knowing that its all good, After cooking I check all the knobs are turned off about 5 times but in order formation. I don't see it as ocd but more of a game, if I do it this way then things will be good for me the next day, but I'm yet to crack the code.
I.m also liking your post because your so brave dealing with this and I would also like to thank you for sharing. Good luck in your forthcoming appointment with the OT.
Raffles you make a good point by relating the difficulties in the world. That's a great statement "Just need to keep reminding ourselves and be grateful for what we've got... not easy... but it could be far, far worse". so true mate
Raffles thanks for sharing. hope your ok.
Shall we form a AAEC help group

I do that too Stamina with the cooker & have to touch them in order too, to make sure they are all turned off before i go out or go to bed, then if i don't remember if i've checked it or not i have to go back & do it again or i'll just be stressing until i do it, my kids always used to laugh & say i had OCD but i didn't take any notice

OCD is one of those thing that most people have but in hugely varying degrees. Some like my self simply find something that's out of order makes them a little more stressed or some will find that their patterns will mean it takes an hour to leave a room. There are lots of different things that can be done to help people who have it badly. I know a guy who as a child had had such bad OCD he would take two hours to get out of bed while he had to tap, turn and hum x things ect, and if he got it wrong would have to do "repentance" hums taps ect. However when I met him he was able to cope so well with it that he didn't have any "ceremonies" that he had to do everyday. Basicly what I'm trying to say is, if you feel you have OCD don't feel a freak or worry about it too much, but do talk to your doc, cause they can get you some help. And it can be good help. Take care of yourself s and I find I'm much better outside in the rain wind or sun.

I always go back to my door 5 or 6 times to make sure I've locked it. Will even unlock and go back in again to make sure I've switched things off. I do that, a lot. Thing is, so many of these actions are so routine there's nothing to distinguish them and I frequently find myself double-checking because there's no distinct memory of just having turned off the gas/immersion/light, etc; I've just done it automatically. Once or twice I've been right, though; and found the gas or immersion was left on. So, there you go.
