I am so glad my child rearing days are over. Saying that, Bill and I have the "pleasure" *cough* of my 12yr old grandaughter tonight as her mother was on the verge of meltdown due to her obnoxious behaviour. It was decided as a punishment she had to stay with her nanny who is known for not taking any prisoners Needless to say she was none too pleased when she was put in our car. On the way back I tried to calm things down and offered her pancakes and ice cream when we got home. I got a charming response.

"I'm not touching ANY of your food because you will be trying to poison me!!" this came from a kid who was bemoaning the fact that her family don't treat her as an adult

Half an hour later she ask for some and I said " of course, I'll just go and rinse off the poison. oh and I got an apology.

Sigh...

My DD was about that age when she phoned Childline to complain about not getting enough pocket money

i dont mean to rattle any cages still as a parent (only 1 child) i treat him as equal and as a freind a mate or whatever i still excpect respect but at the same time im his best freind and it has worked so far living in a difrent country has helped with his upbringing still say thank you pease opens doors for people and will trade his seat on a bus for elders realy i cant ask for more .
people say ive done a great job personaly ive done nothing

What did childline say to your DD? I bet they had a giggle.

My youngest tried the same thing once when I sent her to a room. She yelled at me that she was calling childline so I got the phone, took it up to her and told her to go ahead and when she gets off the phone ALL her toys will be removed from her room as well. I am evil ya know

I don't know what they said, but I know what I did,lol!  I was waiting tables at the time in a restaurant so got her a couple of hours work on a Saturday afternoon washing dishes

Good for you Punisher. How old is he now?

Believe me hormonal girls are a complete nightmare at times. It all kicked off today because her mother refused to let her go to a club for 13-19yr olds!!

he is 21 now dolly but been this way since he was 12 had real shit time with him in the uk but since portugal he has been great
he has just left normal school ( its like the usa stay back untill you pass and first 3 years dint speak the lingo) now waiting for stuff to go to uni in the uk hopfully

Puberty is a ball ache, my daughter is 10 and has just started... her mum is the angry one (scares the crap out of ne sometimes) and I'm the one who trys remebering what I felt when I was that age and trying my very best to make her understand why she can't do something or why she should do something etc... she just gives me that blank stare as if I don't have a clue... I'm only 29 but she makes me feel 92 sometimes!

That's great to hear. It probably helped that you moved overseas as he would have been more influenced at first by you and your wife rather than his peers due to not speaking the lingo so you kept him out of peer pressure etc. Really pleased for you he has turned out well.

I think it is quite normal that the mother is the bad cop and dad is the push over when it comes to girls. Girls learn at a very young age how to wrap daddy around their little finger LOL

Oh, Dolly... and she's only just coming into the 'terrible teens'. Never had a girl (I'll rephrase that!) Never blessed with a daughter, but my two sons had their 'moments' during their teens. Spent a few evenings trapesing round town looking for them when they did a 'runner', interrogating their mates (who always lied for them). Nothing really serious, and they turned into terrific adults, and the eldest know knows what he put me through, with two of his own.
