I tasted my very first batch of self-mixed juices tonight.
Dispiriting.
First of all, I neglected to label them, so had no idea what they were (yes, yes, I meant to, but forgot, and when I remembered, they all looked alike). Anyway, that's academic, because they all tasted of nothing in particular, except one, which had a bit of a clammy, rancid edge. Odd, because I seem to recall using a bit more concentrate than was recommended (no, I didn't write anything down either).
My first urge was to have a tantrum and hurl them down the toilet, but on second thought, I'll pour them all together into a 50ml bottle and add a substantial splosh of Kent flavouring. Good old dependable Kent: it can make a Sumo wrestler's jock-strap palatable.

Awwww don't give in Oliver. Put it down to experience and keep practicing. You will get one right soon and you will be ecstatic. By the way, I love the title of your thread. Made me smile

Made me chuckle as well Oliver, your thread title. As Dolly says, don't give up . . . did you use EJMU to calculate your volumes? What flavourings and recipes did you use?

My first mixes were terrible, I also failed to label them! Put me off mixing for months!

My first golden rule to myself was use a good calculator (EJMU) and label everything. Don't give up though, once you get it right, it's hugely satisfying. Have a look through the members recipe section, pick one you would like to make, and tinker with this until you get something that you like. Once you have one 'in the bag', then you have a foundation to work with, changing a flavour here or there. Out of interest, how long did you steep for? Some juices need at least 2 weeks, and continue improving way past this too! Andy

I never ever wrote anything down either, seemed like too much bother . . . learnt my lesson on that one, so I bought a little notepad to log what I do, including any tweaks. It's a book of scribble really, but I can just about understand it.

Mine steeped for about 16 days. I installed EJMU but didn't use it. Didn't follow any recipe. Used concentrates willy-nilly and almost at random. Didn't measure properly. Didn't wear gloves or even sit at a table. Ran with scissors. I'm a desperado, me. No great surprise then that the whole enterprise was a thorough and comprehensive failure. Must try harder.

I did my first mix 2 weeks ago, i have stuck to single flavours so far to keep it simple, made another 5 bottles of samplers last night of single flavours. My first one which was raspberry has turned out very well, if the others come out as good i will be very pleased and will venture into mixing flavours together.
I did label mine with flavour, who's flavour it is, % of flavour and the date it was mixed.

My first mixes were hanging, and I did use a calculator and label them and take notes! I think I was just trying too hard. Now I'm coming round to just using 2 or 3 flavourings and getting something that, whilst it won't change the vaping world, is at least tasty and worth the time and effort to make!
