How often do you wick your Igo or similar dripper? I managed to get a 1.4 ohm coil on my third day/third try and thats fine on an 800 mah battery, but the taste is crap after 36 hours! Is that because I'm mixing it up too often? Should I buy a load more? Or is it a case of re-coil every other evening? Which is no hassle, but what are you doing? thanks Si

poochops have you tried a dry burn ? it will burn a lot of the crap off the coil therefore less re-coiling needed

I only have a couple of months experience but try to avoid dry burns. It seems to scorch the silica (or produce oxidised products that soak into the wick) and colour it brown. I have a very short wick in my igo-l as I change flavours a lot when trying my mixes. I have had some success with vaping a few drops of pure PG or VG to draw the flavour out of the wick and check if there're any flavour issues.
Is your coil is tight on the silica? I've read this can be an issue.

Hi well I used say three or four flavours yesterday, apple, bit of red bull, black currant and a bit of melon I think. I,ve been doubling over a length of 2mm wick and coiling close to the folded end if you see what I mean, then I curl the extra inch or so of wick around the deck and back between the posts under the coil, the coil is tight enough on the wick but its definitely not strangling the juice flow, however I just pulled yesterday's apart and it's black! not caramelised, black like burnt black, although its never tasted burnt

Dry burning done correctly will prolong the life of your coil, rinsing the wick and coil first helps as the initial burns will clean off the wick, trust me. I have a wick/coil that has been in my Igo-L for over a month and is producing very well indeed. Ekowool is far better than silica, dry burning can almost restore it to great condition. Edit. To be fair, your PG/VG suggestion is a good one for flavour changes

The taste is probably due to a residue that gets left behind from certain juices when evaporated on a coil, particularly those containing caramel. You can wash the wick under a tap and dry burn the coil to remove the crud or you can simply re-wick & coil
I have juices that caramalise on a coil within a day and I tend to make a new set up whenever I vape them because it's just as easy to do that as it is to clean an old one.

Is it best to keep burning til vapour production has pretty much stopped?

Had a mare with my igo-l tonight, gonna launch it any minute and to cap it off I've just filled my aga with a tankful of dekang black currant that tastes like ditch water. I think I'll just go to bed.

Give a good rinse under the tap and dry as much of the wick as possible with vaper towel. I usually use about 4v, burn for about 6 seconds, initially any water left will steam off. Eventually the coil will start to glow, burn, allow to cool a bit, you can blow on it to help cooling and get rid of burnt of dust. After a while the coil will burn clean, you can then see how bad (if at all) your wick is. Prime the coil with juice and re-assemble.

Hang on a minute ...dry as much of the wick as possible with vaper towel. Lmao I was about to search Tesco's for Vaper Towel. Paper towel?

I must admit I'm lazier than Roger and I don't usually bother with the rinsing bit - I just mop up any juice and squeeze the wick with tissue to get most of the juice out and then dry burn (in pulses) until it is all glowing red and not much vapour is still coming off. Mind you, that is mainly because I am not usually going to change the juice much If you use something with a really strong taste like Menthol or Pluid you are going to have to take more drastic action though!
