Peoples' taste buds vary, but to me it tasted just like the real thing. I'd used other stuff, but was still also smoking, with no intention of giving up, until I found the OH flavour. I used cig-alikes for the first month or so - ended up with 6 batteries - then got variable voltage stuff and clearos. A bit later (maybe 6 weeks since the last fag) someone here said 'no juice tastes like an actual cigarette' so I dug out an unopened pouch and rolled myself one to compare. To match the taste I had to dial up the voltage from what I normally used - i.e. the rolly had a stronger taste and a bit more throat hit than my ideal. So I didn't finish it. I smoked a bit more than you - nearer 20g/day (and for a bit longer) and I found that 18 mg was good. My first buy was 18 mg and 38 mg. Later I bought some 0mg and mixed it 50/50 with the 38mg. I wouldn't advise buying huge quantities of any one juice. Taste buds tend to change gradually (quickly sometimes) after you give up smoking, whether you vape or not, and lots of us move on from tobacco to coffee & desert flavours. Great, thanks for all the advice Giles. The real stuff is lovely as you well know, but the stink gets into every thing and stays forever. Be nice to lose that ! Your BAD habit was almost twice what mine is.......gives me big hopes !!!!!!!1

@frankiestine . . . I smoked for 36 years, come the end 40/50 a day. A habit that was costing me in excess of £70 a week, then. Not something that I'm proud of believe me, but there it is, that's a nicotine addiction for you. Never ever did I think I'd still be vaping some 3 years on, I loved my ciggies and never wanted to give up. Going 3 hours without one was difficult for me. So if a fag ash Lil like me can do it, so can you and anyone else . . . buying a decent kit, eliquid you enjoy and you won't feel that you've given anything up at all. Good luck, we're all here for you to offer any help or guidance you might want.

Will certainly be watching this space Frankie Any questions at all when your kit arrives, don't hesitate to ask, no matter how daft the question might seem.

*watching this space*
I was a die-hard-and-enjoy-it smoker for more than 30 years and my brand of choice was Gitanes without filter, the really bad stuff. 2 packs a day. Fellow smokers never bummed a cigarette off me more than once.
In 2011 I found a discussion in an unrelated forum talking about electronic cigarettes and I had no clue what they were talking about. I searched the term on Google and bought myself a very expensive set, just to try it out.
I never planned to give up smoking, I was just curious.
The day that starter set arrived was the last day I smoked. I still have several boxes of Gitanes here in the drawer, together with Marlboros from my lovely. They are unused.
Now I spend a lot more on advanced stuff, liquid base, flavourings than I ever spent on cigarettes, my collection is ever growing as I found a new hobby. But it is completely unneeded, it's just fancy stuff.
Don't be afraid of the nicotine addiction, because it is not as strong as you believe (and I believed as well). Any amount of nic in your juice will be enough. If you have it too low, you will vape more, if it is a bit too high, your body will make you vape less. Anything from 10 to 30 mg/ml will do for a start - and you can adjust it later.
I usually vape at 9mg - but I also carry a 45mg bite extra REO mini for the peace of mind - and for the moments when I have the feeling I want a cigarette - which, incidentally, come less often now. My advice is to always carry something higher than your current preferred vape and use it when you feel like it.
You will find that there is no way of replicating the taste of a burnt tobacco bush - nothing comes close to the real thing. But there is a lot more out there - my current favourites are absinthe and vanilla custard - I would have laughed in your face if you predicted that 2 years ago.
Vaping has an often overlooked upside: It is not all-or-nothing. With a quit smoking plan you lose if you drop the ball once. With vaping, you just don't care, after your fag, you can just go back to delicious vaping.
Vaping is not about stopping smoking - vaping is about starting something better.
But if you really want to stop smouldering bush leaves, be aware of the 6 months barrier. Roughly 6 to 7 months after your last cigarette, you will have withdrawal from MAO inhibitors that are found in conventional cigarettes. Just tough it out (only takes a couple of days) and vape your emergency high nic liquid for a while.
Best wishes,
Chris
PS: I hope the above text is understandable, I still have problems forming coherent sentences in English when I am really trying to get points across. If it is not, feel free to ask anything.

That's the first I've heard of that. I'll be 3 years off cigs in December and I don't recall anything happening at the 6 month mark. Well, I do, it was was NEED MORE MODS and that hasn't gone away yet. My marks go something like: Week 1 - Much coughing as my lungs recovered Week 2 - I can taste food properly again Week 3 - These cigalikes are crap Week 4 - Ego and Tank are much better Month 6 - What's all this genesis stuff about then? Month 12 - Geneis Line. WAAAAY Better Month 24 - So many mods, so little cash

The MAOIs have been discussed in depth for a long time in the German forums, and many people were able to identify that urge to smoke after half a year, myself included. Let me see if I can find an English text describing it better than I can. Edit: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC19495/Basically, we (as in the German vapers) came to the conclusion that there may be a 5 to 7 week wall and a 6 to 7 month wall against which ex-smokers need to fight if they want to give up completely. I personally did not experience a problem after 6 weeks, but I did after 6 months. The explanation given by our knowledgeable people was the MAO level - details in the link up there. Just to make that clear - the MAOIs are not artificially added to the tobacco, they come naturally from the tobacco and some additives like chocolate or vanilla - and they are a second dependency that tobacco smokers need to overcome. Edit2: Sorry, I didn't want to turn this into a scientific debate =) Just be aware that there _may be_ times in which you want some stronger liquid to stay off the tobacco. Whenever they are and for whatever reason.

There is a more palatable explanation in the wikipedia "Nicotine" article: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NicotineBut we just tell our newbies to be aware of the "other stuff" in cigarette smoke and that having a more hefty liquid at the ready for the times of withdrawal was a good idea.
