Both myself and my missus have been camping for years and whilst we have enjoyed it and it has taken us many wonderful places, now that we are getting on a bit we are beginning to get more than a bit jealous of the folks who are ages with ourselves, rolling up in their draught free luxurious white tin shed units they call a caravan.
While we struggle for hours to erect our canvas unit, lay groundsheets, build furniture, hang curtains, connect wires, pipes, gas bottles etc, they just unhitch, drop 4 legs, climb in and 5 minutes after arrival we hear their whistling kettle boiling. Bah Humbug!!!
Well no more. Yesterday we bought a tin shed on wheels of our own. And, we paid for it with the savings I have made from not smoking, but vaping instead for almost a year.
It even came with its very own Whistling Kettle!
So we are now officially non-smoking Tin Shed Tuggers.

Welcome to the wonderfull world of Caravaning... the next thing you'll be after is an awning, then it's back to hours of setting up. You'll start wishing you had one of those lovely campervans that just drive in and the seats swivel and the kettle starts whistling and your still trying to figure which poles go where ! Makes quitting very worth while though doesn't it

Hi Gjdart, We already have a Porch Awning from our Folding Camper and it has just one "U" shaped pole and it pegs out with just 10 pegs. We will be using that with the van. However the van is so big that I don't see us using even that unless we are staying somewhere for a few days.
The caravan comes with a big awning but that will never be used.
Now I just need to find a pleasant tasting Citronella vape mix to keep the darned Midges away!

My one and only experience of camping was floating down a hill, in a storm, at Newquay, many, many years ago. And then trying to take the tent down in the morning, only to experience hang gliding! I think you've made a wise decision lobeydosser.

Not to be vaped but works well in some kind of diffuser www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10ml-Bug-Gone-Insect-Repellent-Essential-Oil-Blend-/190559074605?hash=item2c5e34b92d

Wow Lobey, if someone had said "this time next year, would you rather have a nasty cough and 30 dustbins full of dog-ends or a nice new tourer", I think I know what your answer would have been, and now here you and Mrs Lobey are, able to enjoy a better quality of holiday life. Congratulations mate, you deserve it, Enjoy.

Hi lobeydosser. Well done mate, you both deserve a little luxury for the effort taken getting and staying off the `stinkies`.
Hope your car now matches the towing capacity for that lovely caravan.
Happy travelling.

Thanks Jeffc. The tow car is a Baw Hair more than the 85% towing weight limit that I was looking for, but because it has a 4 wheel drive capacity, it will tow another 400Kg above what I need. Plenty power to tow the van out of muddy fields.
On the daownside, I ordered the car three and a half months ago and we are still waiting.

You wont regret it We had a tourer and i loved it. I ve so many fond memories of setting it up...doing the morning chores of re filling water tanks , (water points are a social life in there own right as you wait your turn and chat away to the next in line:)...but you ll know that anyway from camping, awnings are the invention of the devil and only to be used when you know its staying up for a while . We had ours out and about and it really is a home from home . Enjoy Ps ...it can be worth joining the caravan club as various discounts on offer

Wow! That's in good nick for its age! Hope you enjoy it.
We drove across Australia in one of those motor homes and I have hankered after one ever since. I really can't remember how much fuel it cost to do the journey, but I have wondered whether the cost of it here outweighs just heading off in a car and staying at B&Bs.

Oh I agree Bluefish.
The newer ones look rather plasticy. They probably aren't, but they look it.
It will be a couple of weeks before I can get a service engineer to look it over and tell me what needs done on it, but my initial checks show it to be sound and watertight.
It has come with loads of extras as the person who had it is giving up caravanning, so between what we have and what came with the van, as soon as we can we will head off for the wild blue yonder. Well wherever the sun is shining.
