Oh dear not good Perps. However, I have mcafee antivirus which has fixed this virus on a range of pc's for mates with same virus, normally downloaded from dodgy sites. You can get a free 6 month version of the complete mcafee 2011 antivirus tool if you press like on their facebook page and download from there. I'm not a big facebook fan but have used that product for years and has picked up pieces of rubbish some of the other big products have undetected. Sorry mods for linking to product and feel free to remove.

Thanks Kev, I'll maybe give that a go when I've this sorted out . . . would that I were on a dodgy site enjoying myself when this happened . . . I had two windows open, Skype & Hotmail. Seems it's quite a common nasty from what I've been reading.

Think I'm sorted! A neighbour has been round tonight and done some stuff to the laptop that got it going again. Then a deep scan which took an hour and a half to do. This found some nasties which have now been dealt with. Then! Emptied my Recycle Bin . . . something I've never done in 3 years of having the laptop, as I thought once it went into the bin, it was spirited away into the cyber ether. :-[ Anyway, it's running quite well now. Thank you for all the advice & kind offers of assistance, it really is most appreciated . . . . especial thanks to Sham for offering to come round at the weekend to have a look at it.

Ok now download this free little program www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ and run it weekly. It has a basic registry cleaner within that does a pretty good job of dealing with the essential registry issues and it will wipe the browsers history ect. Then click this www.filehippo.com/updatechecker/ and download a little program that will ensure that all you programs are up to date on your pc. Simple effective and free
