zeldamum - I think I'm going to send it to Raid to have a look at first, before consigning it to the emergency spares box. I have my old Vamo to use in the meantime, and hopefully should get the new one back before I go on holiday in the last week of August. Thanks for the kind offer though Andy, have you any 18350 batteries? If so you'd be most welcome to use/permanently borrow a SS Lavatube that I don't use a great deal now. PM me your address if you'd like it and I'll get it in the post tomorrow to you, a small thank you for all the hard work you've put into re-organizing our recipes.

See, I'm confused.com at the moment - just got the new Vamo out of the cupboard, and it's working again!!! I think I'll give Raid a PM and send it off to him if he thinks he might be able to fix it - I'm hopefully going abroad for a week in about 10 days time, and want to know that I have something reliable with me then. In fact, I'm having a day trip to Newport, Gwent on Thursday for an appointment with the Passport Office to get my current lapsed passport renewed. Decisions, decisions!! How about the itaste VV v3? Haven't tried one myself but it's been getting pretty good reviews. Edit - Just ignore me - it looks like you've got it all sorted. (I'm having one of those days)

I thought I had replied to this already but can't find it. Anyway Perpetua and xs2man, if either of you wants to send me a SID I can have a look and see if the tubes can be separated, non destructively of course. It should also be possible if the tube wall is thick enough for me to bore it out by 0.25mm to allow a protected battery to fit. Boost. I might take you up on that. I currently have a ticket open with HC about it though, so will see what they say first. Cheers.

No previous intermittent warning signs? Does it have anything on the display, even if real dim (check in the dark)? Obviously not firing but do you get any voltage at the connector? Am happy to take a look for cost of postage

It's a great bit of kit spikus & on the whole, sturdy & reliable............but remember, you get what you pay for & the Vamo is at the cheaper end of the scale......normally, anything that does go wrong, can be fixed, but I'm sure you'll find that you'll get more than enough use out of it before or if it starts playing up.......

spikus - I should add that my first Vamo was bought from Chin in December 2012 and is still working perfectly. The item which is now winging its way to Raid is only 6 weeks old, but already has paid for itself. As has been said above, I am only too aware that I could pay 4 or 5 times as much for a better build quality, but as money is tight, I thought that the expenditure was fair, given the circumstances. Would I buy another one? - yes, certainly. It is solid, the VW is excellent, and I have now got used to using it in public (it goes everywhere with me!). I hope this has allayed your fears - you will love it when it arrives and I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine!

Before i bought my one i checked the support parts and they are well supported , the screens, buttons and boards are for sale in the hopefully unlikely event it goes belly up. For the price its very impressive and a good benchmark for any further up/sidegrades
