I also think that despite it being a really hard decision for you to make Zelda, it was for the best . . . for all of you.
You know he will be well cared for, which is always a concern if you do have to re-home a loved animal for whatever reasons.

Thank Bluefish and Perps. I told my daughter about the snake she said yes I said no. With having 5 guinea pigs, 3 cats and a hamster I will have enough animals to keep me occupied, just nothing to make me go out and walk which I am missing already. No updates yet today, resisting the temptation to text her to find out how he is doing.

I guess the Guinea pigs and hamster would have made the snake very happy....

I had a text from the behaviourist Haku went to yesterday, she has fully assessed him and no knows exactly what type of home would suit him. He needs a home with no children at all (mine children are 14 and 18), very quiet, plenty of space to run around, one other dog max as he gets very hyper (bordering adhd) and wont settle unless everything is extremely quiet. There can be no distractions in the area as anything noise wise will send him hyper. He has in her words anger/reactive/frustration issues. It really upset me receiving the text as it sounded as though he was getting on well with her, but she has 6 other dogs and can't give him 100% of her time which is what he needs. However a tiny part of me is glad to know it is nothing I did as he would have settled with her if it was. I am beginning to think there is not a suitable home out there for him

I am beginning to think there is not a suitable home out there for him I'm sure there will be plenty of lovely homes for him, an older couple maybe with doggy experience, settled with time to give him the attention & exercise he needs, plus he's still a puppy & I'm sure he'll start to settle as he gets older . . . he'll find someone

I am going to see him tomorrow to talk about his future.
She thinks he needs medication to help calm him down. He may have ADHD
She had 4 other border collies so knows what she is talking about.
If and its a big if he goes on meds I may have him back and work with him again. Who knows I will keep you all updated.

It didn't go well Today is a bit of a make or break day for Haku. Waiting to hear back from a rescue home to see if they can take him. Also taking him with the behaviourist to the vets to see if they can help him. His problem is he is his own worse enemy and can't control his emotions which makes him quite dangerous and to someone who doesn't know him or dogs very well makes him unpredictable.

zeldamum - hope the vet trip goes well today, and that you get the result that would be best for you and Haku. It would be great if a rescue home can take him, that way you'll be relieved and Haku begins the next chapter in his life. Keep us posted!

Unfortunately chykensa every dog rescue is saying no because of his issues. One rescue home really tried hard to find him a place, even going as far as ringing people up country without success. I have been reading up on medication and it can help some bogs, but in some dogs like him it can make the problem worse. Can I take the risk of him hurting someone else, its bad enough when its was a member of my own family. So I think we are going to have to do the unthinkable, at lease that way i would know where he is and can visit his resting place knowing than he is a) not being shoved around from home to home, b)hurting someone else, c) always wondering what he is like.

My heart goes out to you zeldamum .... I lost my 16 year old friend ( Ben, a golden retriever who gave unconditional love every day from the age of 8 weeks) to the big C and I don't mind admitting that it broke my heart..... I can feel myself filling up as I type this.
