Woodwork for me. I make furniture (sideboards, occasional tables etc) and jewellery boxes for friends and family. I work mainly in American white oak as I find other hardwoods that are available in the UK are too expensive for my pension. A word of warning for any of you thinking 'that is a hobby I wouldn't mind getting into', the shinyitis factor with new tools is even worse than with vaping. Must admit i can get quite emotional when looking at tools i cant afford on machine marts website Lathes???dont get me started on how much i want one... Thank God I accumulated all my tools over a 10 year period before I retired. I dread to think what the £4k - £5k that I spent would cost at today's prices!

Aside from Vaping and searching the net , I started raising Syrian Hamsters which I use to do when was young. At the moment I have over 70 which they took lot of my time in cleaning them. All of them where imported from Germany and The Netherlands as in my place we only had normal ones. At the moment I'm focused on the Blue hamster in various patterns, anyone who like can visit my site as I got lot of pictures to post in here www.melitahamstery.comWhat a lovely Hamster website you have Melita, I really enjoyed having a look around. Goodness me, they must keep you busy looking after all of them! Yes they take lot of my time in cleaning them and writing their genes as well as to get to know what is what before I breed. The crazy part was in building the website as it takes too much time or if I click wrong everything will vanish

Sounds great, woodwork is my main work aside from laying teak decks on boats did you tried to make a mod ? I would like to make one in wenge and ash but still thinking how to mill the inside as I like to make a round tube for my evic.

Lathe work is a side of woodworking I have not got into ( yet?) Note to self : ' NO DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!'

Keep an eye on gumtree as they pop up on there sometimes (and i admit its mods that have re triggered my notion for a lathe )

I thought I had a lot of guinea pigs with 60 when my children were small, we bred long haired ones to show. It was a wonderful but a very time consuming hobby. Grooming daily, it took nearly all week to clean them all out before starting back at the beginning again, we then went to shows most weekends but they were fun happy times.

I do understand as it really needs lot of time.At the moment I started on a daily cleaning so I do about 10 every day early in the morning before I go to work which means I have to wake up more early and less sleep . In my place we don't have those types of shows hamsters here are seen as mice and rats and most pepole breed them for snake food .I wish that in the future I can visit a rodent show (depending the budget)

I have quite a library of books about the American Civil War and have been to Gettysburg, Antietam, Bull Run and various other places. I also used to go walking up the Dales a lot and go to re-enactment weekends. Family and friends take up a lot of time now. My father is 91 and though housebound is still going strong and I do his shopping for him and visit him every week, and at the other end of life I have a lovely granddaughter (who is coming for a sleepover tonight, yay!). I read a lot, Internet a lot, and watch cycling a lot - The Vuelta starts tomorrow so that's my afternoons sorted for the next three weeks. Am also seriously thinking of getting a kitten for company. Haven't had a cat for a long since I lost my lovely old ginger fluffball. I still miss him. Won't go so far as Chrissie with her seven Maine Coons, though. One Norwegian Forest cat will be quite enough, but I'll have to find a good breeder and save up first. And then there's this place. So glad to have found it.

I seem to have a lot of hobbies which involve not having to get up off my arse: watching films, playing games (mainly PC games), watching pro-level gaming tournaments (Starcraft 2), playing poker. I also enjoy playing Petanque, which does actually involve getting up and going outside, but I haven't played for a while. Keep meaning to get back into practice. I go to a local club to play, and some of the players there are proper decent county-league level players, and it's a bloody unforgiving game to play against people who are a lot better than you. I also play guitar, and funnily enough, in relation to this post ....... I was on a music TV show called Be the Source Which was on a sky channel. we submitted our vidoes and they got rated online by the public for the TV show, luckly I had all 3 videos of mine make it to the TV show. I did OK. got rated over all 8th. out of nearly 60 acts. ....... I believe that my band had videos at number 30 and 31. I say "believe", as I never actually saw the TV show. It was our singer who submitted the vids and told us where we'd ended up in the final chart. The website doesn't exist any more, so the only evidence I have that this ever actually happened is a post from our facebook page:

Only £7 too. The Civil War is fascinating to study as the soldiers were mostly literate and there was no censorship, so there's vast amounts of letters and diaries full of information about the ordinary men, rather than just stuff about the generals. Antietam was the bloodiest single day in American history and there's an atmosphere about even now.
