I give up - I tried following all that tweeting stuff but I'm not getting anywhere. Some tricks are just too difficult for an old dog to learn. I was quite impressed with myself for getting sorted with this forum business but I'm afraid twitter is a step too far!

Also start following people I'm following and hopefully some of them will tweet too. Blimey - you're following 209 people! Guess I'd better get started - it could be a long night.

The latest WHO statement doesn't actually mention e-cigs. Is that a good sign? It's interesting. Maybe because it's become the biggest issue and one they know creates negative social media they are ignoring it for the mo. Maybe they don't actually disagree with the amendment 170. I don't know but I do know I wouldn't trust them after what they twitter bombed just before the ENVI vote. In all seriousness you might have hit the nail on the head, before the ENVI vote what were we doing other then writing to our MEP's & MP's, very important yes, but nothing real time, at least not consistently & on mass. I guess in a way that WHO Twitterbomb taught us how to use Twitter to our advantage, although I hold my hand up as other events have kept me occupied, but also how to screen shot & how to keep the pressure on. & also the media, it may not have hit big time but I'm sure by now there have been enough tweets, blogs, posts that the 'media's' there just out of sight, waiting & watching, & the Antz have to know that any kind of bulls**t, lies & misinformation will never get 'disappeared' fast enough this now before a news agency picks it up. It's still fecking freakishly quiet, between that & vereybowring putting anna soubry & nuclear in the same sentence, think I might need another glass of wine

Quite a shock receiving this email today, thought it was a done deal! Dear Mr XXXXXXX, Thank you for contacting Andrew regarding the Tobacco Products Directive. This is a matter he has been following closely for some time, with his focus being on the restrictions to the strength and availability of electronic cigarettes that are being proposed. He shares your concerns. Andrew has recently been in touch with our rapporteur on this paper, Ms Frederique Ries, as well as a number of other MEPs on the ENVI committee, including Chris Davies. Andrew has made the case through them that the proposed restrictions on E-cigarettes were not fully thought through and would ultimately be harmful to public health. The Liberal group in the European Parliament subsequently co-signed a series of amendments to the Tobacco Products Directive which are quite comprehensive in terms of kicking into touch any plans to restrict the availability or strength of this new technology. Unfortunately these proposals did not win the support of the ENVI committee - I gather that the European Grouping of Socialists & Democrats were instrumental in getting the "regulation as medicine" amendment passed. This is unfortunate and misguided. The Liberal amendments followed from the recognition that although E-cigarettes provide users with a nicotine boost similar to conventional cigarettes, they contain no tobacco, which is the cause of smoking-related disease and premature death. Andrew's view is therefore that restricting the strength of E-cigarettes would undermine their value as a means of weaning hardened smokers off tobacco, which would have a harmful effect on the health of many people and cost the NHS millions of pounds in extra costs incurred. However, the legislative process is not yet concluded. Andrew will have the opportunity to vote on the proposals when they eventually reach the plenary session of the European Parliament, which is provisionally scheduled for 08/10/2013. The Liberals have already tabled a series of amendments to the proposals. We will seek to build support for them in the coming days and weeks. Thank you once again for contacting Andrew. I hope this reply is helpful. Yours sincerely, Kilian Bourke Caseworker to Andrew Duff Liberal Democrat MEP for the East of England Some interesting comments regarding Linda McAvern www.clivebates.com The rapporteur’s case for regulating e-cigarettes

Hopefully he's just talking about the ENVI vote that went through in July when he talks about getting the amendment passed.

kibbster I've just Twitter-followed you. I rarely tweet though, set up the account years ago and have hardly used it. I really do need to join this century don't I!
