I don't understand polishing the engraving out either Lee, makes no sense to me.

Only the very first small run of GGTB's came with the full engraving, after that Imeo sadly decided that to keep costs down, he'd just put GG on the bottom cap.

I'd happily pay a little extra to have the wings though . . . suppose you could maybe find a good engraver to do something similar?

If you've got corrosive sweat and sweaty palms (like someone you know...) the all-ally GGTS corrodes to a black mess very quickly. This requires much polishing to keep at bay, and even with something like Cape Cod cloths, it only takes a wee while and you discover that the etching has gorn, never to be seen again. My 490 is almost completely barren of etch, while my 487 is faring a little better. Both will be semi-retired in ten days when the SS GGTS lands on my doorstep - even I can't corrode that, surely!
