That's pretty much how I see it to be honest And . . . whilst I deplore the effects that the misuse of drugs/alcohol have on the users, their families and their victims . . . the users themselves are also victims of someone's greed.
Would I have been tempted in Amy Winehouse's, Jimi Hendrix's, Phil Lynott's position had I had their financial means . . . maybe I would, maybe I wouldn't.
I don't have any sympathy for them as such, more a sadness at a wasted life.
What I do know is that I'm every bit as addicted to nicotine as others are to 'stronger' substances.

I totally agree,we are all technically drug addicts.I dont think its fair to judge others by what they are addicted to,no human being is perfect and we all have our addictions.

I think the AndnAnge, Perpy and Ian have hit the nail on the head. We all think that our addictions are acceptable, let's face it, we changed smoking for vaping because we're either addicted to nicotine or if not nicotine we're addicted to the habit of using cigarettes.
We're all victims of the greed merchants who ply the cigarettes, drugs, alcohol, they all make money from our weaknesses.
I've lived with the devastion that drugs cause, my marriage started to crumble due to my ex being dragged in to the drug culture, because he had a good business and disposable cash he was an easy target, along with many other business men around this area and I would imagine worldwide. Where there's money there's a drug dealer!
I feel for her family just as I feel for the families of every lost child.

I think its a shame people are so quick to judge someone they never knew ? Ive always thought its best not to comment on a death , if its at all negative. She was a fragile soul , with mental health issues , she was someones daughter .

Any loss of life is a truly terrible thing...she was a great talent and like many before her - her career was "cut short"... BUT compared to the deaths in the rest of the world as a result of terrorism, starvation, disease - hell - she doesn't matter!!
Later...

Who amongst us imagined that we would ever be enslaved by tobacco when we first took a drag on our first cigarette?
When you're young, you never imagine that there will be consequenses. It's the joy of youth, imagining that you are invulnerable.
I'm with mrlimbo and Lilac..

Lynda me too!! linda. it is just sad really, but she is not the first and wont be the last. her father had already wrote her eulogy WTF. the details of the cause of death are not known yet and i think it may well be suicide rather than a simple overdose, although overdose seems to have been the chosen method. she was a very troubled girl with every chance to be un-troubled but was too far gone. raggy

I take great offence to being put in the same drug catagory as a heroin addict. There is a very big difference between smoking tobacco & injecting substances direct into the blood stream.
I have the misfortune to be surrounded by heroin addicts & their dealers because of the estate I live on & have zero respect for any of them. It makes no difference to me whether an individual is famous or not, they are still horrible addicts who are not interested in helping themselves, yet make others lives a misery.

When I hear stories like this, I'm glad I'm not a kid growing up in the drug culture we now have.
When I was younger, I was easily led astray by peers around me, which is how i became dependant on Tabs. I'd be an addict of harder drugs if I were growing into it now.
Drug users are a just a victim of the times. Easy access, trendy. Just like cigarettes were back in the day.
I think it's a bit rich, any nicotine addict looking down on user's of harder drugs.
It's not so very different.

Agreed Buck, there but for the grace of god, go I.
If I had ever been stupid enough to follow my friends, down the cannabis and stronger drugs route, I would have been hooked. I have the personality for addiction, but thankfully, I had good parenting, and some very good friends that stopped all that crap from getting anywhere near me.

Hissie I respect you and everyone else in here, but I'm going to say how wrong you are. I'm afraid you are on the moral high ground of thinking your better...but sorry to say your not! Injection of heroin is not needed you can smoke it exactly the same as we do, but must add ours is no where near as harmful. An addict is an addict you would be in the same room as all those you hate I'm afraid. I'm worried that you can't see it tbh, ok hard drugs are different, but let me guess...they smoked once in their life

Just want to throw this in the air....isn't smoking classed as a drug/habit? I wouldn't be so harsh on others dependancies without checking our own old and new habits After all... do we all really know what vaping does to us? Hope this is taken in the right way, just an open thought. That is a really good post. My initial reaction was the same, "So what, another junky". Having read this though, I fully agree. We all have our demons that we battle with. Sadly some people lose the fight. Addiction is a bitch! It does not matter what the addiction is, food, shopping, booze, ciggys, inhaling unregulated chemicals from China or other so called hard drugs. We can all be too quick to judge sometimes.
